Hi! My name is Michele (Michael) and i'm italian!
This is my ornata baby:
I've Bought it in a reptiles & amphibians exposition last saturday and from this exposition my frog don't eat anything! I tried with beatles alive in another box, with pincers and in the terrarium.
Can you help me from this problem?
I've seen the "pacman food samurai" But in my states there ins't it and there aren't information about it...i want buy this from USA.... Can you tell me something of this special food?
Thank you for the answers and sorry for my bad english!
Welcome. Have you tried crickets, cut up red worms, or dubia roaches? You may have to use tongs and wiggle the food in front of him. They like moving food. The food should be no bigger than the distance between his eyes. He should be fed daily until he's an adult.
There is a great care article in the care article section here also. It will give you lots of information.
Try covering 3 sides of the tank to make him feel secure.
If you temps, humidity, and day/night cycles are good, he should adjust and is probably just stressed from the move.
Remember to only use dechlorinated water to mist tank, for water bowl, and to moisten substrate.
Use amphibian calcium/vita D3 powder lightly dusted on his food every other feeding, and herptivite or other amphibian multivitamin powder dusted once a week.

Oh yeah, if your substrate is bark, you should remove it and use Eco earth coco fiber or plantation soil. Bark can accidentally be eaten when they dive for their food and in can impact their bowels, which is usually fatal.
He's a cutie! Nice pac!![]()

it's a nice healthy food that is convenient because you don't have to keep it alive like other food items. but you will have move it around a lot to get your frog to eat it. putting it on tongs and wiggling it would work best. I don't use it because I think it takes away from the natural attraction of these awesome frogs. it's so cool to see them eating huge earth worms and other bugs just as they would in the wild. and a good diet of worms and roaches is just as healthy as anything you could feed them and easy to come by. You can't really buy the pacman food in the USA. it's at Japanreptiles.com

I thought there was a distributor for the samurai food here in the US now.
We use nightcrawlers as a staple diet, crickets & roaches for variety, fish on occasion, pinkies as treats & other food items. We try to keep them happy with a variety so their palates don't get bored.
sounds like a good feeding chart! as for the pac food in the US he prob ships it from L.A. California so I bet your right

Welcome. To Frog Forum. Don't worry about your English. You seem to speak(or type rather) well.
You've been given excellent advice from Heatheranne/Jessica/and Bobby.
Thank you for the answers! Next week i'm buying the crikets for him! The substrate is of peatmoss... i wait his first step...
This site is fantastic!![]()
You do need to get rid of that Peat Moss and replace it with Eco Earth Coconut Fiber substrate(not coconut husk). If he eats any of the moss he can become impacted(severly constipated) and possibly die.
He needs food everynight. As a baby this is a critical stage in his/her life when your frog needs a lot of food and vitamins as well as calcium. How much nutrition your frog recieves at this stage determines how healthy and well your frog will be as an adult. It all starts here so keep him/her fed/warm/moist/ and humid and he/she will be growing faster than you can track.
Read this Frog Forum - Pacman and Horned Frogs - Ceratophrys - Care and Breeding
There is a lot of info you will need to care for your little guy/girl.
The samurai pacman food is in the U.S. and can be shipped from here. Yusuke ships it from the L.A. area.
As far as the ornate eating it off the bat it is a far shot. Most of the pacman frogs that arent raised on it from tadpoles take awahile to eat it if they ever do. About half of my 40 frogs eat it. The others will not eat it especially the USA raised frogs.
I would feed it the normal diet that ivoryreptiles is suggesting and not worry about the pacman food.
Sorry the substrate is not moss but in italian is currect name is "torba"...when i try to feed my frog, she close and retract her eyes...maybe she is stressed...
hey I suggested normal food too Mike, that's it I'm telling.... (frog smile )

What are you trying to feed him/her? Crickets for a baby Pacman should be no longer than the distance between your frogs eyes.
Are you trying to feed him/her by hand/tongs or forsepts/or are you just placing the food in for him/her? You can breack the hind legs off of the crickets so that they can't jump and are easier to catch.
What is the temperature in the enclosure? Babies should. Be kept at 80F to 82F during the day and 75F to 79F at night, but the night temp should hover around 78F. Humidity needs to be at 80% and maintained.
Do you have 3 sides of the tank covered with some kind of background? If not you should to make him/her feel more secure.
I believe your frog is very scared of you and is becoming very stressed because of this. It takes time for them to adjust to a new home and new surroundings. You should. Not worry until well over a week. If it takes longer than a week then we may have to suggest some other methods. For now try not to worry and don't hover over him much. Just throw some food in with him/her at night and leave him be. Check in the morning to see if he/she has eaten any.
Do keep us posted.
Good luck!![]()

Thank you for the answer Grif!
For the question;
1- I try with the roach but now are very big... tomorrow i'll buy the crickets...
2-The temperature is 28 C° in hot zone and 21/22 C° in cold zone
3- I convered 3 sides (look the photo)
4- i don't stress the frog from last friday evening, i open the trerrarium just for humidify... i wait the crickets for try again... The frog is in the same place from saturday
Tomorrow arrives the crickets...Are two days than my frog is under the earth completely! Tomorrow i will try to find she and feed her... or i wait she go out alone?
thank you guys
you should find her and bring her out of the dirt to feed her, she's so young she needs to eat quite a bit.
