Rainbow Pacman?!

It's been about 15 years since I've had a pacman- about all that was available back then were the lemon yellow/orange spot albino canwell's, standard phase carnwell's, and ornates. The proliferation of varities is amazing. I ran into an old friend that had an adult cranwell's and got the bug again. After I bounced through a few pet stores- I came across this guy (and just had to bring him home).
There was a little bit of green and yellow when he was the size of a quarter- he's more like a silver dollar now. I expected it to fade, but his coloring has only become more intense as he's grown.

This guy probably falls into the "Apricot Albino" category- but I haven't found another picture of a specimen that shows this great of a color palet- at the quarter-sized age or anyother.

Any thoughts as to if he'll keep this "Rainbow" look?

The first 3 pictures were taken with sunlight coming through the window, no photo shop.

BTW, his name is "Pickles". (I have no idea where that came from, just popped into my head.)

Very beautiful Cranwelli you have. Looks kind of like one of the new Albino Morphs. Its always a toss up whether they keep their colors or they fade to another. You will just have to wait and see.

I love his color so far. Only had him about a month- had some problems with feeding but he never turns down a nightcrawler so I've just been packing him with those. I'm cautious to attempt to change his diet though considering how his colors are turning out.

I'd like to know how to categorize him, too much color for a true "albino"- on one hand it's pretty cool to see all the new morphs that are available, but frustrating not knowing how he'll actually turn out or what to expect from any offspring.

To me he almost looks like what my imagination would describe as an amelanistic ornate hyrbid.

Definetly not an Ornate. He lacks the false eyespots on the back of his eyelids. Could be a Cherrybomb or a High Red Albino, but I'm not sure. He doesn't quite look like an Apricot. Hopefully Mike from Mikesfrogs(Mikes Phat Frogs) will see it and chime in. It looks like one of his specialties. Jessica. From Ivory Reptiles could also give you some insight. They are both breeders on here.

I hope everyone's monitors' are showing the true color. I just had to reset my color temp on my laptop because my photos looked "washed-out" compared to how "he" looks in person and on my camera. This frog looks totally fake in person!

I've bred various reptiles in the past, but always thought pacmans were a little too daunting to undertake. If this coloring sticks around though, I'll be looking for a mate
(I'm actually sitting here wondering if I should go back to the pet store and see if they still have this guys little friend)

They had 2 in the same enclosure? That's very ill advised. Most pet stores don't know how to properly house the animals they are selling. 2 Pacman frogs should never be housed together. That's a disaster waiting to happen.

On a side note. If they have another I would go buy it.

...in a tank next door to his. They were close to the same size, but I can only assume they were from the same breeder. The other pet stores in town had the standard lemon-yellow with orange spot albinos (with varying quality). The store I got this guy from actually has a very active, knowledgable staff and a great selection (5 foot albino diamondback rattler for $499.99)

If I hadn't posted these pics myself, I'd totally think they were faked. I've been googling like mad the last few days and haven't seen anything close to him. No juveniles that look close. No adults. No tadpoles. Even the japanese sites- they have some really cool morphs, but nothing like this guy.

You know, now that I think of it- they did all that above-ground nuclear testing in the 1960's right outside of town....

a lot of "albinos" carry green, when thy have very intense green while keeping any shade of red eyes they are called a lime green albino. Nothing very new but very unique. some of his color will fade im certain. particularly the blue-ish gray spotting. Cherry bombs are much more rich read through out. and tangerines don't carry and dark or green coloring. he VERRRRRY cool. Griff is also right abt it not being Ornata. 100% Amelanistic Cranwelli. and one of the best Iv seen!

Like I said- been out of the game for awhile. I'm used to only seeing the red overlay on ornates- thus my thinking that there was a crossing by breeders to get the high red/orange into the cranwell's line. I'm very surprised by the amount of morphs and phases that are available now.

I expect the blue to darken up I'll be taking alot of pictures in the future. My auto-focus wasn't cooperating and I had to shoot from an angle that wasn't what I wanted. I feel that the blue didn't turn out as bright as it should have.

And I'm totally hitting the pet store tomorrow to see if they have that other one still.

totally understandable. I was just offering some tips I know abt them. it's one the best Iv seen. I'd buy every Pac like that I could!

You really want to wait til the frog is an adult to see what the end color is.

Its not a Apricot Albino, Cherry Bomb or A High Red Albino. They have no green.

It will probably fade to a light red with the lime green cranwelli arrow.

However, it is a great looking frog.

Not being sarcastic, just curious to know where it fits.

I'm just surprised that with as many photos of juveniles that I've come across, I haven't seen one with the myriad of colors like pickles here.
And I know cranwells darken as they get older, but I've found it odd that as this guy gets bigger, he's getting brighter. The blues and pinks have just recently begun to show up.

I've never reared pacmans in any quantity- perhaps I'm just not familiar with how much of a gamble it is as far as the final coloration.

What's a general census of when their color becomes (atleast close to) stable?

The blue on the sides are from the insides of the frog showing through light colored skin. Almost transparent.

I wouldnt label it til its and adult.

I own Apricot albinos, cherry bomb and High reds

The few albinos I have with green in them are these two adults.

I would wait about 3 months and see what it turns out to be. We all could debate for weeks over what it is. But until its an adult we wont know.
