You can use a lamp viliqn combined with a heat pad on the side of your frogs tank. The heat mat/pad should either be on the back or side. Make sure the water dish is on the other end of the tank accross from the heat pad.
If you deside to use a lamp buy a Fluker's 5.5" dome lamp with a dimmer switch. The dimmer lamp will help you keep the temps up without having the bulb on high. You can adjust the amount of light and heat that comes from the bulb. For day time the Exo -Terra Daylight Basking Spotlight. Make sure to not go higher than a 50 watt bulb. Anything higher can harm your frog. For night time you can use the Exo Terra Heat Glo. Again no higher than 50 watts. Be sure to give your frog a place to hide from the light like they would naturally. A fake plant with large leaves for shade works well.
I hope this helps you deside which route to go. Like everyone said though, there should not be a heat source under or in the ground/Substrate.
PS. Do not appolgize for your english. I know plenty of people who's first language is english and do no speak it very well and especially can type it Lol!![]()
Fluker's 5.5 its not available in Bulgaria"Exo -Terra Daylight Basking Spotlight" Do you mean this http://zoomagazin.eu/admin/images/ca..._20195_c72.jpg
Lets see what I understandI can use lamp and a heat pad/mat (I dont know what is difference оf pad/mat
) ? At the day exo terra basking spotlight, at the night exo terra heat glo, right ?
And if the watt of the lamps is higher for my terrarium, what I do ? Sorry if im annoying, try to use the google translate (English to Bulgarian) if not a problem![]()
I would try to use the translater if I were not on my phone. You are not annoying.
A heat pad and heat mat are the same, but one usually has a sticky side so it will stick to the glass of your tank. Use the right one for the size tank you have. Zoo Med heat mats UTH(Under Tank Heater) say on the package what size tank they are for. So if you have a 10 gallon tank you will use a UTH that says 10 to 20 gallons
No store in Bulgaria has the Fluker's 5.5" Lamp? Can you possibly order it from an online store like amazon.com?
If the bulb is higher than 50 watts you will need to find one with a lower wattage. The Sun Glo bulb is fine as long as it is 50 watts. The problem is with heat lamps is that they can get too hot if not on a dimmer switch or have a thermostat to regulate the heat lamp. If you purchased a bulb that is too powerful return it and get a 50 watt bulb.
I search it, in Bulgaria is not available, Im in small town and there's no reptiles accessories, etc. :X
I thinking to get it from Ebay, its about 9-15 dollars (cheap), but delivery is 30 dollars
Have I understood correctly, this lamp have a thermoregulator ?
The frogs are Nocturnal (awake at night), so a light is not the best way to heat them. If the frog is Albino, it can burn them. Grif has given excellent advice!
Yeah, I read about that for burning they skins, but I think this is only by UV ? If I heat it with pad/mat it will be dark in the terrarium. Yes, Grif help me a lot. Thanks all
PS: Quote from care sheet
"a low UVB tube is generally a welcome addition to the terrarium. Not only will it allow you to view your Horned Frog better, but it will also help your Horned Frog to convert some of it’s food intake into vitamin D3. If no UVB can be provided then it is more important to ensure that your Horned Frog’s food is dusted with vitamin D3 regularly.
The exception to the UVB bulb are albino Horned Frogs. UVB should not be used in terrariums housing albino varieties. UV lighting will burn your albino Horned Frogs skin and will eventually cause blindness."
Thank you
And if a frog is not an albino can I use lower watts UVB (or other lower watts) for more than 6 hours a day? That is only for lighting, a separate will use the carpet.
