My toad just about gave me a heart attack a bit ago. I checked on him before I shut his light off and he looked like he was gasping for air. Every time he opened his mouth he closed his eyes. The front of his head looked puffy and he was very wet looking. After thinking that I was about to lose a frog, I watched him for a while. To my relief I started seeing him pull skin off and eat it. I think the stringiness of it is why he appeared to be gasping. This is the first time I have ever seen him shed. He is now acting normal and hiding under his rock.
Cute little fella, I have had him since he was about the size of a penny and how his is almost three inches long. Not exactly sure what kind of toad he is, found him outside here in north Texas. Maybe a bufo woodhousii just by looking at pictures on the web?
Just thought I would share my near heart attack experience.![]()
