Thank you!
Oh cool, what type of frogs are you getting?
The problem with Cane toads in the US is people get tired of them and release them in the wild. In the southern parts of the US it poses a threat to the native frogs and toads, and even some pets.

I don't see how anyone could get sick of a frog/toad
Yeah, here they are regularly found in dog/cats water bowls. When the dog/cat goes to get a drink it attacks the toad and ends up getting poisoned. They also eat alot of the native frogs. We have services to remove them and 'destroy' them. But then I just feel bad :/ even if they are a pest, they still are a living creature.
It is indeed sad, but it's mankind's responsibility to bear that sin in order to (attempt to) restore the natural way of things. Those toads wouldn't even be there if they hadn't been purposely introduced.
It's just like the pythons that need to be exterminated in the everglades and beyond. They are eating and destroying native wildlife.
I kill american bullfrogs all the time (during the designated Missouri bullfrog hunting season), of course I also eat them so they are not wasted. They are an invasive species in many places, one that dominates other species of native animals. They also make good pets :P
Yeah, I guess. Atleast they haven't got to all of Australia (yet). I think they were introduced to control cane beetles that were eating the crops or something like that.
I actually watched some documentary about how bullfrogs are taking over the other day. But they didnt kill them, they just monitored them. What does frog taste like? lol.
Haha yeah, thats like how cane toads are such pests here, but still, great pets :P
It's really good, actually :P I'm going to get murdered for talking about this on a frog forum
Only wild harvested bullfrogs are good. Resturant ones are usually store bought, and store bought is usually farmed. Farmed frogs are fed high fat diets and grown as big and as fast as possible. They taste awful and are dripping with fat.
Wild frog is very lean. When cooked it's kinda like a fish, but it doesn't "crumble" like fish does. Think of a wetter version of chicken, but not as dense :P It's a light watery meat. The legs are really good sauteed in butter & garlic, or breaded & fried, or the best (in my opinion) is basted with BBQ sauce and grilled or smoked.
I've wanted to try frog for a while. Now I'm glad I didn't try it from a restaurant. I guess I'll have to see if we have any good size invasive species here. Veddy veddy doubtful in the desert.
As to the killing live creatures I don't believe it should be done for fun, ie "trophy hunting" but if something is plentiful in the area and you are going to put the meat to good use then eat up.
I tell my girls "If you kill it you have to eat it" when they're playing with bugs.
I hope to God they never catch me killing one of those nasty boxing glovey looking house spiders. *shudders*
If you do get around to trying frog, tell me what you think of it!![]()
Yeah, I agree. It should only be done if the animal is known as a pest, and you're going to kill it humanely then go for it, especially if your gonna eat it :P.
Haha, good motto.
Hahah, I don't like spiders much either. I don't get how people have them as pets. (But then again, alot of people think I'm crazy for having frogs, :P )
I wish you luck, I think they're really good. It's a unique food, some like it, some don't. I love it! Every store or resturant bought frog legs I've ever had was awful, but the wild natural stuff is amazing.
I agree. I'm a deer hunter, but I've only killed one buck. I made a mout to go on the wall, but I also ate the meat. I mostly hunt for does because they taste better and they are more plentiful in Missouri woods. They supply all of my red meat needs for the entire year, I like to put between 10-12 of them in the freezer every fall. I do every bit of the processing and work from the time I shoot it to the time it's on the table. Skinning, gutting, aging, butchering, & packing. This way I'm also not contributing to the god awful conditions they keep "mass produced" cows in. I use natural, wild venison from an animal that lived a healthy life style to make hamburgers, chili, tacos, meaty pasta sauce, steaks, pot roasts, pull venison, fajitas, soups, etc, etc. It's 99% lean meat, there's virtually no fat in it. When you cook it only water comes off.
I eat a lot of wild game. Turkey, deer, pheasant, quail, dove, squirrel, turtle, rabbit, wild mushrooms, fish, and native fruits and berries. I think that about covers it :P
It's funny, I just had a long conversation about this very topic with someone in the chat rooms on caudata.org.
That's an excellent rule to live by. Too many people take nature for granted and have absolutely no respect for it. Makes me sick to see all of the trash people throw out of their cars, or leave behind them on a fishing trip.
Ew, gawd. I know exactly the ones you're talking about!! I like spiders, I even keep them as pets, but I hate hate hate the ones you're talking about! I have to admit to squishing many of them. Also cockroaches, silverfish, house centipedes (make me scream like a girl), cave crickets (make me want to die), and daddy long legs. I dunno why I'm scared of daddy long legs, but I seriously hate them.
Earwigs and millipedes are the only thing that make me scream like a girl. Not even pain can do it. I like the black fuzzy jumping spiders. They have cool fangs and catch the nasty flies that swarm the house around august.
