Does my toad have cataracs? Need some advice!

My friend gave me two Bufo Americanus today. I put them together in a 20 gallon long, but the smaller toad's right eye is cloudy like he has a catarac. I know he is a he because when I picked him up he croaked. Has anyone else had this problem or have any idea what this could be?! Is there a cure if its an infection. The bigger toad's eyes are fine, but if its an infection I do not want it to spread to the bigger one. Any info would be greatly appreciated thank you in advance!

he croaked because it was kinda rude that you just picked him up like that. you should always ask for permission first just to play it safe.
i can't tell you to go see an animal care physician, but i can tell you it's okay to make him an eyepatch, it might make a swell gift. serioulsy

I can see how that would be rude, but a eyepatch will mess up his swag. On a serious note I am still concerned for my toad and his roommate.

This is from If frogs could talk 12. Cloudy eyes are probably too much fat in his diet and over feeding. Domestically raised crickets can cause this. Feed crickets whole grains, veggies and fruit and no dog food. There is no cure for cloudy eyes so prevention is the best thing to do.

Bacterial infection is also a cause of cloudy eyes. You must maintain clean conditions. Change their water everytime they enter it and every 2 days even if not used. You should setup a quarentine tank with only paper towels as substrate a clean water dish and appropriate temps and humdity and place the affected toad in the quarentine tank. A vet could perscribe antibiotics to fight the bacteria.

I'm not sure if this could apply. The lack of certain vitamins may lead to a secondary clouding of the eye by bacteria.
