hi,
I have had my pac man frog for a day now and I queit worried about three things. One some of the people I have spoken two said I have to get some speical dust to put my crickets is this necessary and two Steve (pac man frog) has buied it self in to the thick layer of moss I put in and won't eat is this behaver normal? Finally is forest moss ok I got it from the pet store I got him from from.
also will tap really harm the frog becuse if so I a dead ducky I spray his tank with water and fill his water pool up with iit as well.
On the bright side Steve has had 3 crickets and was active all night until he settled in his pool at 5pm. I looked at the green hored frog care sheet I've wrighten all the infomation down but any other info would be helpful.

Okay, let's address everything in order that you asked about:

1) The "special dust" is a vitamin supplement that needs to be dusted on the crickets about once to twice a week when you feed. Something like Repta-cal or Zoo Med Repti Calcium, etc. Some will debate whether this is a necessary item or not. Me, rather being safe then sorry would get some and dust your food items for Steve.

2) Steve burying himself is perfectly normal. He makes himself feel safe when he burrows down.

3) The forest moss is NOT okay. If he happened to ingest it while eating a prey item he could become impacted. You need to get EcoEarth or Plantation Soil.

4) Tap water needs to be treated with AquaSafe of some kind of dechlorinater. Or left out in the sun for 24 hours to evaporate the chlorine.

Dusting your food sources is not debatable......they need the vitamins & calcium supplements for good health.
You can dust foods every 2nd or 3rd feeding if you feed nightly. I would suggest you rotate the vitamin & calcium dustings....one day dust with the vitamin supplement, next time dust with the calcium.

Use coconut fiber as a substrate, there are many brands available. I suggest you go through it to remove any lare chunks and try to get as fine a shred as possible. make sure it is moist, but NOT muddy.

Excellent advice on the water conditioning kitten! Most tap waters will contain chloride and WILL kill your frogs if left un-treated!
Do NOT use distilled water as it is the complete opposite....it has NOTHING in it....no minerals or vitamins and will leach those out from the frog, therefore killing it.

I am guessing the frog is cold and that could be why it is burrowing and staying there. They are nocturnal and will dig down during the day, but will sit up a bit once night falls and wait for prey items to wander on by. They are ambush predators.
Make sure the heat & humidity are up to specs. Heat should run 76 (cool) to 85 (hot)......an Under Tank Heater (UTH) can be used on the SIDE of it's enclosure, not underneath as the frog may actually lay on it and get burned or worse.
