hi,
I just got a first pac man frog it is a green horned frog and I think it's doing well it's eaten 1 criket on it's first day I am not surprised the garden centre I got it of kept in in a plain container with nothing in it they didnt even feed it and lady was a nutter she didn't know how to look after it but lucky its in my care know it's new name is Steve and it doing fine.
Just a few questions.
if it eats moss will it die?
should I vary its diet or not?
How can I sex it?
It is only small compeared to other pic's I have seen so my guest is it is a baby.
thx
kester
First off congrats on the baby. As for your questions.
1) Yes it can die if it eats a piece of moss if the moss causes and impaction (severe constipation due to gastointestinal blockage). You should keep him on Coconut fiber substrate with no moss. Look for Eco Earth or Plantation soil. Remember Coconut fiber NOT husk. The substrate should be moist or heavily damp not mud.
2) you can vary its diet once it starts to eat well for you. As for right now start with just crickets. Rule of thumb that they should be no longer than the distance between your frogs eyes. Be sure to dust his/her food with a multivitamin like Reptivite once a week and with a calcium supplement with vitamin D3 every other feeding, but be sure not to dust with both at the same time in the same feeding.
3) you will not be able to sex him/her until he/she reaches 5.5 to 8 months of age.
He/she needs to eat more than one cricket per night. 3 is good. Babies and juviniles should be fed daily. Post some pics we love pics.
Don't forget to dust his crickets with calcium when you feed him, put a little calcium in a baggie, add the crickets, and shake like coating a pork chop. If he hasn't been fed he'll really need the vitamins. If you keep moss in his cage feed him out of the cage, yes moss can be fatal if swallowed. Gongrats, good luck and post pics!
Do I have to feed in a anther contaier?and dust crickets just I don't know any thing about dusting the crickets were do I get the dust needed?
thx

ps I got an album called baby pac man frog.
If you have moss in his enclosure feed him in another container, if he grabs a mouthful of moss it could kill him. If you have substrate like Eco Earth you don't have to, that won't hurt him if he eats some. At the pet store in the reptile aisle should be jars of calcium with vitamin d, it looks like flour when you open it. Put a little in a baggie and put some crickets in the baggie, shake them up and the crickets are now 'dusted" and covered with white stuff. That's how you get calcium into your frog, which is very important. You should also get a jar of reptile multivitamins, use the calcium most feedings until the frog is grown, once a week or so give him vitamins the same way you do the calcium. The calcium and vitamins aren't expensive.
