It is a shame that there are quite a few responsible hobbyists out there that keep pythons, however the negligent "keepers" far outnumber them. All that can be hoped for for python keepers now is the addition of a permit clause. In other words, pray they allow an expensive permit for keepers. This keeps these snakes out of the hands of idiots.
This law is a direct result of hobbyists not keeping each other in check due to profits and as a result of the multiple python species that have overrun Florida and other places. The python problem is a prime example of both an irresponsible pet trade and poorly informed, lazy consumers coupled with a complete lack of regulation by anyone.
Look at the bright side! You do not have to go to a zoo to see them anymore, a short trip to the Everglades and you can see them in the wild!![]()
