    Talking Newbie from Idaho

Hello my name is Katy and I do not grow potatoes. (Can't would be more accurate, but that's a different forum.)

To make a long story (hopefully) short my daughter has an assignment to make a tropical rainforest project for school, so we've decided to go all out and start a vivarium for our home. It's mostly because I like frogs but her teacher doesn't need to know that

Anyway, I would like some ideas on a good starter frog for our family. We bought a 12x12x18 zoo med enclosure and plan on building a waterfall so I figure we've got around a month of construction and planting before we're ready for a frog. We do need to decide on who we are going to get soon so Paige (aka brat #1) can write her report.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome aboard. A good rainforest type to start out with is Phyllomedusa hypochodrialis or tiger/orange-legged monkey frog. THey are a touch little frog form South America. See Frog Forum - Tiger-Legged Monkey Frog, Phyllomedusa hypochondrialis for more details.

Thanks Kurt. I'm going to do some research on Big Eyed Tree Frogs too. The girls wanted a WTF because the babies at the pet store were so cute but I'm sure that it would be miserable in our little viv as an adult. I guess I'll read up some more and then bug the tree frog peoples with my questions.

Most big-eyes are collected from the wild in East Africa, definitely not rain forest. More like scrub and savana. White's come from a variety of habitats.

I guess that just goes to show how accurate Wikipedia and some vendor resources are. Thanks bunches and see you around the board.

You're welcome. Go to AmphibiaWeb for more accurate information then you will get from Wikipedia and vendors. BTW, most vendors don't know **** about anything.
