Default Grabouille, my Horned Frog (Ceratophrys cranwelli)

    Hello,

maybe you already know my Pxie frog Graboune, but I never introduced my pacman frog, Grabouille.
I have it since April 2011.
I assume it's a female (Size, white throat, no croaks...).

It is one years old and. It is in an 30cmx30cmx30cm Exo Terra.

It hibernates since the 9th of December.
I try now to wake it up slowely by increasing temperature and substrate humidity.

I hope it will be healthy when it comes back to surface, because it had an infection problem inside its mouth before hibernating. I brought it to a vet who made a litlle surgery in mouth. Then I put some "Bethadine" during one week on its surgery wound.

    Let's cross fingers...

I woke up my frog yesterday (3 months hibernation since beginning of December 2011).
I noticed that it has a big difficulty to walk normally, because it has difficulties to move it's left front leg.
I moved this leg in my hands, it doesn't seem broken and it doesnb't create a bad reaction of the frog (As if it would suffer for example).
I put the frog in water and it could move all its legs...

I don't understand why it has difficulties to move this left front leg when it is on earth...

Could it be a disease ??

PS : it decided to go back under substrate.

Hmmm could have had complications while aestivating. She may need calcium to help so if you can get some liquid calcium I would make a warm bath and puts a few drops of the liquid calcium in the water and soak her for 10 to 15 minutes. She could also be weak from the slumber. If she continues to have trouble I would seek help from a vet. Keep your temps at 80 and higher during the day and maybe 79 or 78 at night. Humidity should be maintained at 80%. I hope its nothing serious.

My frog doesn't want to eat since it is wake. I offered some dubia roaches and a mice and it doesn't want to eat.
I will offer some locusts on Sunday (I wil be back at muy home on Sunday) with calcium powder + D3.

Oh yeah. I remember you posting a while back about the arm issue. Hopefully she will eat for you then.

After one week, the situation is still the same.
She has so much problems to move its left front leg that she can't shed its skin totally. Then she has always pieces of dead skin on her body remaining.
She is very lazy and has a feeding response very low, quasi null !
I forced her to eat a mouse today in order to check if it recover forces and then if its left front leg goes better afterwards...

I already brought her to a vet some months ago for an infection in mouth.
It is 55Euros each vet visit.

I have 3 amphibians and I decided to go to the vet one time for each of them in case of problems, but not more, because really expensive.

Now I cross my fingers that its problem is only temporary problem...If not, I feel the worst for her...

Perhaps she will be fine. You could still care for her even if she is disabled. Almost sounds like her arm is dislocated.

She looks good though. Very healthy other than her leg mobility impaired. Will she eat from tongs?

    She is very selective.
Accepts only locusts and mices and crickets.
For roaches and nightcrawlers I have to force feed.

Yes, she usually ate from tong (Before hibernation).

Now, she has a "feeding response" quasi null since she woke up and so, no reaction versus food (Running prey or moving prey with tongue).
    I have to force feed...

    You mean temps ?

At the moment, I heat at 27,5°C on the temperatures sensors you can see on the ground.
As she is at 10cm from those sensors, I assume she is at 26°C at day.

    Night, 22°C to 23°C.

These are the temps advised on all specialized amphibians/reptiles french forums, and also specialised vet I know.

You remember ? We had some discussions about it.

Ah yes I remember. Higher temps can raise their appetite and help with digestion. You could raise her temps to about 28 or 29 for a day and see how she reacts. As long as you keep humidity up as well as soil moisture she may regain her appetite. Its worth a try.
