It's fine. If he doesn't come out to eat in a day or so if you'd like you can gently scoot him out for dinner.
I've done that with mine many a time. They'll eat, then I soak mine in the water dish for a few minutes. Then under they go again. Mine used to puff-up and get mad at me, but they very quickly learned it's dinner time when I wake them and no longer get upset.
Some wait for theirs to come out on their own. You can do that too.
