    Unhappy Red eye acting weird(sick?)

Hey guys,my male red eye has always acted kinda clumsy but in the past couple of days hes behavior has gotten much more weird and of a concern to me and worried.now for the past 2 days he acts like he is disoriented(jumping and falling on his back etc)and when he sleeps(i think he is sleeping anyways because its in the day)he sleeps with one eye open and also he stays in the weirdest positions for hours upon hours for example he had one leg on the glass and the rest of his feet on a leaf, leaning back looking like he is going to fall(and eventually he did fall right on the ground).

what could this be?i searched on the web for weird behavior of red eyes but found nothing that iam having with mine

    thank you guys

    Griffin

ps:i will post pics of him if you guys need.also i have had him since he was as big as my thumbnail, and had him for about 6-7 months now.and also have a female red eye tree frog, both bought at the same time

I wish you the best of luck. You should put him in a small container with a damp paper towel, a small water bowl, and a small fake plant. I cannot offer advice as far as temperature and humidity because I don't know anything about red eyes.

I had a similar situation a few weeks back, and I couldn't get a single person to even comment on my thread. Not one, but hopefully you'll have better luck than I did.

Well mine was a grey tree frog, and his symptoms weren't exactly the same as yours. He did live, thanks. Here's the thread: http://www.frogforum.net/tree-frogs/...-climbing.html

    Hello Griffin,
Please read the post I made a few minutes ago on the thread below:

    http://www.frogforum.net/tree-frogs/...tibiotics.html

Then come back to this (your ) thread and try to answer all those questions, if possible .
    (except the vet question)
I would removed the frog from the enclosure it is in, make the hospital enclosure w/ damped paper towels ( treated water !!!)
and a clean water dish w/ VERY shallow treated water.
It could get injured if it continues to fall.
(As you know it will climb as high as it possibly can)
And ,YES photos of the enclosure and the frog always helps,
If you do not have a herp vet/start looking for one your area; you don't want to save that for the last second!

ok guys i transferd him in to the container with damp paper-towels on the bottom with a shallow water dish(both with spring water) and also put aluminum foil on the top of the cage with vents on side to keep the humidity up.so what is the next step?

also i put the container under the viv in a cabinet where it is dark, should i leave him in complete darkness or out in the open where there is light in the day

You might put the hospital container right into the viv w/ a lid?
Please post other information referred to in that other post.

    Hi Griffin,
    Oh! Warm things up !
    daytime temps 78- 82F 7 (78-80 perfect !!!!!!)
    night 72-75F

Humidity at 75% is okay- BUT a sustained 90% is too high.
    75-82 % ( 82 being the highest)

Your viv looks really nice !! Don't move your gauges at this point and try to adjust the temp and humidity.
Moving them just mucks things up!
You should get ( if you can) a 2nd way to monitor temp and humidity.
Home depot has ones that are about 9$.
They are battery operated .They cannot be left in the viv permanently but are accurate.
Perhaps a probe type? Those darn gauge types are not very accurate?

I really think the humidity is better lower then at 90%! And it's chilly in there.
Over time this is stressful for them. I hope this helps. Let me know.

    Is he eating?
Do you find poop on the glass?
    Have you seen him shed?

i was a bit off on the temps, right now it is 80F.and humidity only is 90% right when i turn on lights and fan in the morning, then a little after it stays at around 70-80%.and i did see poop in the water dish(in quarantine tank) and he did eat the last time i fed him,i put 1 cricket in there,so i will see if he eats it overnight.and i think i did see him shed 1 time since i have had him.so do you think he is going to be ok?

ps: the tank is going to look REALLY good when i get some creeping fig to cover the ground.gotta wait to get it until wal-mart starts selling there indoor plants here soon

My whites did that kinda thing years ago,it was his calcium deficiency. Are you dusting the crickets? Hope you find out whats wrong with the poor little guy!

    Griffin,
I think he is going to be okay. Keep a consistent dusting schedule so he gets what he needs -but not too much.
Keep an eye on that humidity at night ( 90 is just too high) . Think of a way , to keep a more consistent average of high70s.
I use a computer fan ( in the summer) in a timer. Below. t works great. I just move it around as needed.

Timers at home depot are 8$.

He did not eat the cricket i put in there,it might be because he is in a new environment.i do use a computer fan myself but not at night because humidity gets to low,but i can just keep it over one hole to keep some circulation in there at night.also you said if i can put the quarantine cage in the viv it self but it is to big for the retf viv but i can squeeze it in my much larger 60gal gtf viv, would this be ok?

thanks for your help so much, will keep u guys posted or if he doesn't eat eventually i will come back for some help on what to do

I do not know, because I do not have Am Green Tree frogs.
I do not know if temp and humidity needs are the same.

I'm. Not entirely sure what is causing this problem with your frog. Disoriented and having trouble with mobility could be MBD(Metabolic Bone Disease) due to a lack in calcium, but since you dust their food with calcium that contains D3 I doubt it is MBD.

Calcium is also an electrolyte with 90% humidity they should not be dehydrated, but how often do you change their water source? It should be changed everytime they enter it and every 2 days if not used to prevent bacteria and protozoans from infecting the water source and thus your frogs.

What kinds of live plants are in your Viv? Some are toxic and can poison your frogs if they come in contact with their saps and fluis if broken or damaged?

I would also send a Private message to Don Lisk and ask for his assistance.

In the mean time prepare a warm soak of UNFLAVORED PEDIALYTE. Of a 10 to 1 ratio. So for every 10oz of water add 1oz of Pedialyte. It must be UNFLAVORED Pedialyte. No deeper than half his height. Soak him for 15 to 20 minutes.

    Keep us posted.

This could also be a neurolgical problem due to a lack of a vitamin. Do you dust with a multivitamin?
