Hi Griffin,
Sorry it took me so long to respond. Sometimes I miss posts due to long work hours.
It sounds as though your frog is lacking something. Perhaps a deficiency? Sounds a bit like tetany, which is caused by low blood calcium levels. Though I am not sure bc you do dust.
Is your frog moving any better since the soaks? Are his pupils still unequal? Unequal pupils are a sign of a neurological dysfunction...I am again wondering...electrolyte imbalance? Calcium, sodium, potassium? Frogs need minuscule amounts, but those amts sustain vital functions. Muscle contractility varies with amts of these nutrients.
Please remind me, what brand and type of calcium do you use? Do you ever use herp vitamin powder?
If your having trouble keeping your frog in the water than you can soak paper towels in the dechlorinated water & diluted pedialyte solution and he can sit on the wet paper towels. You can even set them along the walls of his tank and let him climb them. Though a true soak is better, he will absorb some of the solution this way. I have gotten my baby to relax and fall asleep in his paper towel soaks and it still seemed to work. I also stuck his fanny into a dessert cup of the solution after he fell asleep. He didn't even notice. Though he was hyper and anxious for a few minutes when I first started.
If you can perform the diluted pedialyte soaks and see a difference in his ability to control his muscular and skeletal functions, you may have your answer.
Also, if his musculoskeletal function is impaired, this may effect his ability to control his jaws. He may need help eating until this resolves. Though, if he is eating on his own, it is much preferred and will not cause as much stress as force feeding. But, we have to do for our babies as much as we can to help them pull through.
Hope this helps! Please keep as posted and good luck!
Remember to talk very quietly and calmly to your baby as he goes through these procedures and he will learn to trust you and will be calmer with each treatment.
Crossing my fingers for you!
