Sculpted 'oyster mushrooms' for frog's tank - work in progress!

1. Do you think it's worth working to get the magnet system right, or should I just make them for siliconing onto tanks? I figured being able to remove them was better for cleaning.

From the responses, I think you'll have to do both. I've never tried a magnet approach but I attach my shelf mushrooms (collected from the wild) in my vivs with silicone and I'm happy with that approach.

2. Should I make them lighter white? or darker brown??

I lean towards lighter but I'd ask if they've been sealed yet? Also, how do they look wet?

Not sealed yet. Will not require sealing, just need a 7 day post cure and they're totally fine to have in the viv as they are.

Will be doing both in this case! I'll get some stronger magnets and make both magnet sets and non magnet sets. =)

For the people worried about super strong magnets scratching or breaking glass, I will be coating the 'outside' magnets in a capsule of urethane rubber. It's grippy, will prevent sliding and also protect glass and fingers from pinches and breaking.

Just waiting on magnets to come in the mail! I'm in AU, so KJ Magnetics is a bit of a pricey choice, I have a local choice that isn't so bad, but still pricey! I've found a wholesale price place in hong kong but slow shipping. Expect magnet attempt #2 in about two weeks, gives me some time to make a mould for the magnet capsules.

The magnets from KJMagnetics are a fantastic price, but I just checked. To get 30 of the size I'd want, only $57. Not bad! With shipping to AU? $190. Er, not so much! Thanks for the suggestion though. =)

Super fast pic, I washed the mushroom really well, dried it out, grabbed a quick photo and pulled it out again. The resin is cured so it's non toxic, but to be 100% sure I want to leave it at LEAST a week before it's in longer than a minute or two.

New Baby seemed to like it. Settled right in and was annoyed when I kicked her off. Aww.

That's exactly what I was going to say for the ones concerned about the glass :P Except I didn't know what the stuff was called, I was just gonna say "some kind of styrofoam or rubber backing."

Checked out the site, I wish I had money for one of the big ones. Mmmmagnets. But! I'm in Australia and I think the shipping from there might be a bit obscene, but I'll see what the shipping quote is or check out an AU alternative.
