Thread: Help me improve my tank?

Default Help me improve my tank?

I've posted a couple threads before & I am so grateful for all the help I've received! I'm happy to say that my little ACF is now eating very consistently & the lump on the side of his belly (the suspected tumor) has disappeared with the use of some water conditioner and a new filter. My other one was old & not working properly. I know there is still room for improvement though & I'd love to hear some opinions!

This is my current set up:

I am now using a Tetra Whisper EX20 filter in my 10 gallon tank. The plant all the way to the right is artificial, but is also very soft. Mose (my frog, the little guy all the way to the left) loves hiding in it & it has never damaged him in any way. I also kept some large river stones on one side (he seems to like them). The floating plant is cut off of a peace lily. I don't think it does much besides add some additional decoration and places to hang out. Is that an acceptable plant to have with my frog? Are there any hardy aquatic plants I should look into? I've never had any & I don't exactly have a green thumb.

Also, one additional question. At what age is it possible to determine gender? I've had my little guy since January & he did go through a growth spurt (I would currently estimate his size to be about 1 1/2 - 2 inches snout to vent), but his growth has since slowed. He does not have a visible cloaca, but I don't know if it's just because he is still small or if he is in fact a male.

    Any input is greatly appreciated!

I'm pretty sure peace lilies are poisonous to humans. I dunno if you'd want cut leaves dripping sap into the water. I could be totally wrong, as I'm not a botanist.

I am not sure about the peace lily but a plant I keep in every tank is water wisteria. I leave it floating, it grows lush and bushy and the frogs LOVE to lay in it. Every morning I find most, if not all, of my frogs "sleeping" in the canopy of wisteria.

I have tons extra if you would like a couple sandwich baggies of it. I just ask that you pay for shipping.

The tank itself is looking great for a frog. Maybe a piece of driftwood leaning over the bare bottomed area (kind of leaned up at an angel in the corner) which would give another shady shot for him to lay under. They do not like bright light (they have no eye lids) which is another great reason to have a floating live or silk plant as it disperse the lighting
