    Default Hello :)

    Hello everyone!

I just finished my 72 gallon vivarium about 2 months ago. I am going to keep d. Leucs in it. I will be seeding it with springtails in the next week or so and hopefully I will be getting my leucs in a couple of weeks. These will be my first PDF's but I have kept RETF about 4 years ago.

Some of my other hobbies are saltwater aquariums. I have a 1200 gallon, 180 gallon, 120 gallon and 12 gallon saltwater reef aquariums. I love to scuba dive. I have a 4 wheel drive truck that I go rock crawling with. I also love to garden and have a 10,000 gallon koi pond in my back yard.

I have always wanted to keep PDF's but just didn't have the time to get a viv started for them, I wanted to be sure that their environment was just right.

I look forward to learning more from everyone on here.

Welcome. You seem like a very busy person. It is awesome that you do aquariums too. What type of scuba certifications do you have? That Koi Pond would be even better with a turtle .
We would love pictures of all your tanks though mainly the Poison Dart Frog tank.
P.S. try not to use abbreviations like PDF I didn't figure it out till about five minutes after I read it.

I just have a basic scuba cert. I have frogs in my koi pond, I considered putting a turtle in there but it gets cold for them as well as I don't want them to eat my fishies .

sorry about the abbreviations, going through many different forums I just thought is was common knowledge. I will do my best.

Nice to meet you. I just joined last night and I'm not a frog expert. Maybe you are and don't need this advice but just in case, I thought I'd ask you where you get the soil from that you plant in because when I tried to make a more "natural" habitat for some little frogs that had just turned from tadpoles, I got some soil from a flower bed (which I now know was dumb) and they died and we think it may have been fertilizer. Maybe you know a proper place to get it from but I just wanted to make sure you didn't make the same mistake as I did.

    Thanx, Tom

I will remember that for the future. I would like to get some more land frogs sometime.

Meanwhile, went to Wal-Mart and we got two African Dwarf Frogs. I didn't know it at first, but happened to get a male and a female. At first I had decided not to get attached to them but I just couldn't help myself and I am totally in love with the little critters!

Soon as I get some batteries for my camera I'll do that then. I have them in a great big bowl, which was actually a box for an ice cream cake, about 12" across. I have some rocks in it that I found at the river not far from here, which I scrubbed with dishsoap, rinsed, and let dry really well to be safe from microbes and whatever...and some plastic plants. I have a little water filter thing in it as well.

thanks for your concern, I actually used ecocomplete and coco fiber, as well as some organic type soil. I am scared of putting anything in my tank from outside. I did put in some drift wood, which I soaked for a month or so.

    sorry for your loss.

Here's some pictures of my viv. these were taken about a month ago, I need to get some updated pics.

I have since added a new light fixture and more plants, I have my hygrometer and fogger on now as well. this weekend I will be enclosing the top with screen etc. so that I can get it seeded with springtails next week. I'm so excited to finally be able to get my froggies....

Very nice, I am jealous of the frogs that get to move in.

That is totally awsome! You'd better get those frogs fast - There won't be any room for them if me and Kurt get in there first lol

Here some pictures of my build.

First of all my main concern with this viv is for the health of my frogs, I am super excited about getting my new leucs but also know that setting up their environment to be easy for me to maintain and to be super comfy for them. We all get busy and don't have time always for our animals "we say I will get to that tomorrow" You know what I'm saying.... So here is my virtually maintenance free vivarium that was built with the help of my husband. I can dump my entire pond in less then 2 minutes and add fresh clean water.

Its a 72 gallon bow front tank, we drilled 4 holes in the bottom, 1 is for my drain, 1 is for my fogger, 1 for my open loop which runs my waterfalls, the last is for my closed loop which runs my spray bar that supports my false bottom, the spray bar keeps my water circulating.

    Welcome aboard to you both.

Raven, you can use ground coconut shell as a replacement for dirt. Some plants can grow in it.

You're welcome. John and I spent the afternoon at Black Jungle learning a few new things about plants and dart frogs.
