I purchased a young male P. Adspersus last August. He settled in nicely and was eating like a champ until around October. He then began to burrow under his substrate. No matter how moist I kept his enclosure he still insisted on sleeping. So turned off his light and let him sleep. I think its about time to wake him up. What is the proper way to do this? I don't want to shock him terribly. I just want to see a live frog again! Any tips and or first hand experience would be great. Thanks
I am no expert and have no personal experiance with P. Adspersus, but since no one has replied I will try and help.
To naturally simulate a weather change is the idea. Gradually over a period of 2 weeks increase the day time cycle by 15 minutes per day as well as a 2 or 3 degree increase in temps. Increase soil moisture and humidity levels. Since these frogs come out of estivation during the first rainfalls of spring. I'm not sure what temps you are keeping him at and all climate levels, but this how most are to be performed. Its basically the a replication of spring ariving. Hopefully a member who has experiance in P. Adspersus estivation will chime in.
Hope that I've provided atleast some help with your awakening.![]()
Iv kept plenty of Pyxies, and still do. I would say that Grifs advice is pretty much it. If you can control the temps a degree or 2 at a time ten do it but it's not that critical. just gradually give him more day light warmth and moisture, use dechlorinated water to mist him with a few times a day.. once it's obvious that he is alert wait a few days and offer him a small meal. Earth worms would be good. hope this works let us know!

I usually spray my guys with waters a few times a day and than when you see it stirring, trying to shed you can help by putting it in it's waterdish with warm waters.
