Cool, walmart trip after work then. Just cut'em up and toss them around him? Get some tongs?
When I cut them too small, they didn't wiggle enough (Nugget likes his food to move quite a bit, not sure about Pakku). I left them a little longer than an inch, and Nugget is slowly learning to eat them from tongs. He had never done it before, so at first I kinda had to shake them around in front of his face, and then when I dropped them he'd snap them up or catch them midair. Be very careful with this as too much of it could have Pakku eating substrate. Each time Nugget missed one, or it got too much substrate on it, I'd just rinse them off real quick in a feeding dish I use and threw those suckers back into rotation. The first time he only ate 3 of the 5 pieces I tried to give him, but the next time I tried with the longer pieces he seemed to remember they were tasty and was better at eating them from the tongs (and gets better each time).![]()
Cool, well I gotta get Pakku unstressed first. Might dangle a worm in his face to see what he does. Thanks.
Be sure the worms are dye and chemical free.
OK! so... I got some canadian night crawlers from walmart. Washed my hands up, took one of those bad boys out and cut it into about 5 pieces? Dusted them with vitamins and as soon as I started letting them trickle down near him he snatched one and ate it. I may have to cut them a bit more though as it look like he kinda struggled with that one piece. Now since I'm a night crawler newb. Im sure cutting them up like that kills them? Or do they just regenerate? If I cut a few pieces off one and throw it back into the cup with the rest will it live? or do I really have to just feed one whole worm as it'll die and there will be no point in feeding a dead worm? Maybe I should invest in some feeding tongs now.
Grif will likely be best to answer this, as I believe he uses worms as his staple. Here is the info he gave me when I started feeding worms:
You can start cutting pieces from the tail of the worm (it will be the lighter end, most worms it is easy to tell). Grif recommended cutting pieces from various worms, like one piece from five worms if you need five pieces (usually if I can only get 2 or 3 pieces from a worm anyway, I will use that whole worm in one feeding). The head of the worm won't die, they should even regenerate if I remember correctly. I think as long as you are cutting those puppies from the tail to head, the head piece can survive. Also, the tail piece should stay wiggly enough for it to attract Pakku's attention. Anyone who has been doing this longer than me, please correct any of my misinformation and or provide anything additional I may have left out!![]()
Don't cut the whole worm up. If you start by cutting the tails off each worm they will regenerate their tail. Cutting the whole worm up makes it very difficult for them to do so and will more than likely die. So just cut one piece off at a time starting from the tail. They will live for a long time in the fridge as well so keep them in there and get them out an hour before feeding so they aren't too cold.
Also you will go through all the worms more than likely before they have tome to fully regerate because that does take time. I usually buy 2 or. 3 tubs of them and just start at their tails and rotate tubs except for Grif because she can eat 2 or 3 whole night crawlers in one sitting easily. Loki is smaller so I cut pieces for him.
Ok he ate a couple of pieces of that worm I cut up last night. I just removed what he didnt eat and I saw that he was burrowed in a different spot when I woke up. I only ever see him do this if he leaves poop in the burrow hole he has been in and sure enough he left a poop behind. I'm sure he's liking the improvements I have started to give him and his home so hopefully it's smooth sailing from here. I'll be keeping an eye on his behavior still. Thanks once again to GriffTheGreatand anyone else who has put in their input.
This is how we're looking now btw
tank with much needed improvements.
and here he is chillin' under his new plant.![]()
He seems to be doing better. Today's my first day off of the week so I was able to monitor his behavior all day. But like always if it isnt one thing its another -__- lol. Anyway, now it seems like he's trying to "walk" through the back glass. Heres a short clip I managed to get. Is he still stressing out?

You need to cover the back with a background of some sort. Even cut outs from a magazine will work. Also the side with the water dish. He is stressed if he can see outside the back and both sides of the tank. He will feel more secure if yoh place a terrarium background on the glass. Also if your lamp is dead center of the screen top it allows you to heat the ambient air easier.
The back and sides have got a blue poster board on it, so it is covered up. I'll be moving his light more toward the center then. I thought It needed to be on the warm side of the tank.
Oopse, I couldn't see the Blue covering.if he can see his reflection in the background he may try and attack it. Black and other dark colors can cause a. Reflection that sometimes aggrivates them.
That might be it. I had a feeling that might have been it lol. Anyway a small update. He's burrowing again, night before last he ate 3 crickets and a good size piece of a nightcrawler, he's pooping so I think I don't have anything to worry about anymore, for nowThanks for all the help!
