Its not that you're supposed to have a dry side. You're supposed to have a warm and cool side. The cool side will naturally be more moist because there is less heat there to dry it up. All of the substrate should be moist, but not muddy. They like moist soil. Keep a close eye on him. Sometimes even the babies will not eat for a day or 2, but still offer food incase he gets hungry.
