    Default Morio mealworms

    Hi all,

just bought some more locusts for my ornate horned frog and picked up some Morio mealworms. I've been told to be careful with 'em because they can nip but upon inspection they don't look like they could do much damage, has anyone had any problems with them or is it all right to throw them in and watch Hendrix explode in them?

    cheers guys and gals

Superworms are discussed quite frequently in this hobby. Here's enough reading to create an opinion of your own:

The usual arguments is that they have a hard exo-skelleton which can cause impaction if feed to often (in other words not a good staple food), and that they can bite. Therefore, it's recommended to crush their heads before feeding them to a small frog. I have no personal experience with zophobas, so I can only quote what others have said about it.

They have stong mandibles. They can have a nasty bite. Some people crush their heads before feeding them to their frog.

I have heard stories of them being able to chew through a frogs stomach when swallowed alive. Also as Martin stated they have a lot of chitin in their exoskeleton that cannot be digested by your frog and if fed to many too often they can cause impaction. So definetly be careful. They are best used as a treat.

tried to read the previous link and there's nothing there! lol. that sounds terrible, I think crushing the head is probably the best thing, i dont want to particularly risk that lol!!! I'll probably treat him with em every now and then, keep em mixed up with vitamins, hopefully he'll enjoy that a bit more than dusty locusts lol.
    thanks
