Question Spikey bromeliads dangerous to frogs?

I have a new bromeliad here, and it has that spikey ridge that other bromeliads have. I put it into my White's Tree frog vivarium, and it looks good. Im just worried about him cutting himself with the spikey ridges. Should I be concerned?

I've heard different opinions about this. Some refuse to take the risk. Some think it's okay for smaller, lighter species. I've personally used a moderately serrated neoregelia in my red eyed habitat without issue so far. I would avoid the more viciously spined bromeliads like aechmeas, though.

    Hi BettaShawn,
If you are concerned about the spike on the brome leaf and want a little color , check out fittonia?
It comes in three colors -- pink/ green, green/ red, and green/ white.
I have a few , they have done well. It will flower and clips nicely to keep it low growing.
I use this plant in 4" pots to help cover the soil a little. It's a nice contrast when planted next to creeping fig.

I have bromeliad neoregelias in my Dart tank and in my RETF enclosure as well. They have very small spikes. My RETF likes the wide leafs on them to hang on. I did have one in my Whites tank at one time but it died realy quick when they got bigger and would dive bomb it from the other side of the tank. Truthfully the only plants that I have left in my WTF enclosure is a Mother In Law's Tongue. The leafs are really thick and sturdy to support the wieght of my Chubby friends.

"would dive bomb it from the other side of the tank" -This is what I would worry about w/ bromelaids?
With my luck , one of my red eyes would have a eye poked out !!!!

They warrant the name Chubby, they are a little on the husky side!

The spikes on the neoregelias are actully really small and would not poke out an eye but if you rub them the wrong way they will give just enough of a poke to let you know that they are there.

Yeah, My brom in my RETF tank is growing REALLY fast and is taking over my tank, I has only been 2 months; REALLY! So I may pull it out and make it a house plant (it is a really pretty purple one) and replace it with a Pothos instead. I want something that will grow a little taller them wider!
