Rewdollphf's Recovery (Agalychnis callidryas)

I just wanted to share with you all the recovery pictures of one of my Agalychnis callidryas. Always feels good about helping those of the amphibious kind out like this. It did not take too long either.

Excellent recovery! What caused the injury?

Thanks a lot, Cam. I was really happy about this. I've had some bad experiences before with recovery. Sometimes they take, sometimes they get worse.

and I honestly have no idea what caused it. I got him like that. Although I'm pretty sure it was caused by it jumping into the enclosure's walls. That plus stress, as the place I got it probably shouldn't be caring for Red-eyes. Luckily, I wiped them out of Red-eyes. lol Rewdollphf was the only one that had an injury.

Nice job! It looks like it's from rubbing it's nose against something hard and gritty, like mesh screen or sandpaper <-(hopefully not!).

What was the time frame between the photos and what treatment did you use?

I really wish I knew what exactly caused it. It's definitely got to be something like rubbing against something, although I still lean towards it just was jumping into the walls. They had no backgrounds on it's tank where I got them, lots of foot traffic/tapping on the glass I'm sure. Definitely not a good mix!! hahahaa

But as far as treatment goes, I'm a big believer in trying to keep everything natural. I tend to stay away from nose rubs/meds unless I notice it gets worse. I've only had it happen maybe 3 times in my years of frog caring.

So I just trust my instincts and try to monitor the frog every chance I get. My "Amphibian Room" is very, very calm and peaceful. Tanks are always clean, so there was no worry of it getting infected. Made sure it ate the right foods, etc. Turned out to be such a great recovery too. Looks healthy as ever right now.

It warms my heart to find these kinds of threads in contrast to all the sick/dead/hurt frog-threads. You obviously did an amazing job!

But as far as treatment goes, I'm a big believer in trying to keep everything natural.

Natural immune systems can be quite effective once you eliminate the source of infection/trauma. I always try to go natural, too.

It's impressive what something as 'simple' as a move to a more appropriate habitat can do. I hope you show the before and after pictures to the pet store and give them a proper scolding on amphibian husbandry.

Do you remember the time frame for the healing?

Ahh, sorry, Brian. Forgot to answer that.

I want to say it took 2-3 weeks. A month at most. You can actually see a little bit of healing still taking place in that after picture. So it wasn't "fully" healed yet, but very close. Happy to say it's completely healed, and has been since.
