    Default Over feeding

Two things? I give two frogs a dozen crickets every other day then use feeding tongs to give one of the frogs two small mealworms the other frog won't touch the meal worms. Is this over feeding? What are the health issues that can occur from over feeding

What size are your frogs? I give about a dozen crickets every other day to 7 frogs, but my frogs are pretty small.

They are about a little over a inch.

    Good Morning Odica,
    The answer is FAT! lol
Seriously,I don't think you are over feeding. I feed 6 frogs 12-14 crickets every night. They typically do not eat all of them. In fact, I do not think (my red eyes would over eat) I don't know where you are, but spring is right around the corner !They will likely eat more in the spring and summer months than in the winter. Smaller frogs should be fed daily. Larger frogs could be fed daily or every other day. Make a good judgment re: using their body condition as a guide. If they are getting obese, cut down the the # of crickets fed not the frequency to ensure they get their vitamins and calcium.

See what others think; but I don't know if you should bother w/ the meals worms? Especially if you have to use tongs.

Thank you. One of the tree frogs like the meal worms though he even will come to the top of the tank to get them from the tongs lol. Crickets are way easier though and I feel safer giving them just crickets. I feel like a accident may happen feeding with the tongs but I heard giving a verity of insects is good for them.

i give mine mealworms, crickets and waxworms. i dont bother with tongs tho as id b there all night feeding them, plus i think they enjoy creeping up and pouncing on the crickets (mealworms are now in a dish). personally i dont feed my frogs that much, and as said mine r bigger than urs. i feed them about every 3 days with crickets but they constantly have the mealworms there. as lynn said if u feel they are putting on weight too quickly then cut them down. usually ull just have to go by judgement.
