Hey...I wanted to share what turtle species I own. I have: 2 yellow margined box turtles, A keeled box turtle, a four-eyed turtle, a Painted river terrapin, an Indian spotted pond turtle, and an Alligator snapper!!
I'll upload pics....if I ever figure this site out. lol
I'd definitely LOVE to see pictures of all of them! Try uploading your photos onto a site like photobucket and copy the [img] tag to post your photos.![]()
Wow i used to have tortoises, I loved them, but so much work had to go into them,I had to re home them,I love Box Turtles ive never seen one for sale here in Ireland.
Doesn't alligator snappers get really huge? Looking forward to the pictures!
Alligator snappers look nothing like the FL and Common snappers. I am not sure if MO protects alligator snappers , there are lots of turtle farms in MO and Arkansas with alligator snappers for the pet trade. Batagur is no longer used , the current as of this month is Callagur , it may change next month , LOL .. Who produced the quads ? and who produced the hamiltoni in MO ? Careful not cross state lines with the hamiltoni. You like the big guys , those Callagurs will grow quickly !! hamiltoni get pretty large as well. We have them at the SDZ and the Callagurs are almost dwarf swimming beside a Chitra indica. I would concentrate on breeding the quads , callagurs adn hamiltoni are pretty much everywhere at anytime in the market. Anyways , great choice of turtles you got there , you def. have your handsful !
Actually callagur is the outdated genus. It was the only species in the genus...now its in batagur. i plan on breeding once adults. They are growing fast. Need more first...
Btw there are many perfectly legal loopholes to get these animals. Did not expect to be grilled on laws...
You are right. I wasn't grilling you over it, just trying to inform. I did delete my previous post.
According to TSA 2011 conference , they were still Callagur , perhaps Taxonomist have gotten bored since then and moved them back to Batagur , LOL . The only loop hole I know of transfering CITES2 animals across state lines is the seller givng it to you as a gift and in turn you give a generous donation. What are some other loop holes ? I wasn't grilling either , LOL !! After 25 yrs of herp keeping , I don't care what people do or how they do it , not really for me to judge or comment.
TSA now says batagur. lol
Yes the hamiltoni was "gifted" though they can also be loaned for breeding purposes, or if you have a permit.
