I just got two green tree frog. The tank I got is 17.2x12.9x22.6 it is a glass half moon tank with a plastic screen top. I got a heat pad that sticks to the under side of the tank. I can't use a heat light on the top of the tank because of the plastic screen is this ok? Also they stay at the top of the tank one on each side is this normal?

if uv just had them then theyll probably not do much for a while. try covering the tank so its enclosed and theyll feel safe. also id suggest to get some hanging plants or somethin as they dont seem to have much to hide under and the theme of the enclosure seems pretty 'open'. theyll apreciate it. u may want to move ur heat mat to the back wall. i have mine here. it may not generate enough heat at the bottom as u have substrate ontop of it. try using a lamp for light. one of those cheap desk ones. itll also sort out their day/night cycle bit better. hope this helps
Thank you very much but wouldn't moving the meat pad to habitats back wall make the glass to hot for the frog to climb on? I will get the light and some plants today again thank you. I set the tank up almost the same as the one they were in at the pet store. But I don't think that's very good because they didnt have any plants and a very small water dish.
It shouldn't. I have a heating pad that lost stickiness but was on the side of the tank. It helped warm up the place.
nah, heat mats dont produce that much heat. in my old tank i had one on the back and one on the side. i do have a backgorund but itll b fine without one. u should b able to get a background and cut it to size if ur worried. yeh sometimes pet shops just dont know wot their doing. its a shame. u can get plants pretty cheap. and as for a water bowl make sure the water isnt too deep but a big one will b good if uv got two frogs. just imagine that they both want to bathe at the same time so make sure its not too small.
honestly im not sure, iv never thought about it. i do have touble gettin my humidity up to the reccomended height but i have a fairly large tank which sorta accounts to it. if ur misting daily thatll help with humidity as will moss. i have a plant pot with moss in and stones over the top so the frogs dont eat it.
Sounds like you have a very nice tank. Any pics or videos of it?
I'm gonna get some plants from the pet store and the hydro meter to see if the humidity levels drop when I move the heat pad. I'm gonna try to find a light that won't melt the plastic screen on top of the tank as well. Thanks again MiM
MiM I need your help. I just got back and I got the leaves and gauges and now I got a new problem heat temp is just under 80 maybe 78. But the humidity is crazy at like 95 what do I do???
ok well is the top sealed or is it mesh/have holes in? im unsure as to wot it could b. the heat is probably factoring in. i was sayin to someone else who had 100% humidity, i can barely get mine to 70%. sounds silly but when u got the gauge from the shop did u check it against the others to make sure it was correct. could it b that the gauge is wrong?
What do you mean test it? They all said the same thing at the pet store low humidity. Should I take them out and see what they go down too? And the top on the tank is made from plastic and has small holes all over it.
Is it a digital temp/hygrometer combo made by Fluker's? If so then it starts out way high with temp and humidity levels and gradualy goes down to the correct level of the humidity within the enclosure. I have this gauge I'm talking about and I freaked when I first put it in until noticed that it was slowly going down and eventually stopped at the actual level of humidity and temp within the enclosure.
If this is the gauge you have it would explain the high readings.
Hopefully it is somethin like that. I can't see why the humidity would b so high otherwise. There's no moss, water features etc to contribute to it.
Yeah, I saw that in the enclosure that's why I asked what type of gauge it was. Figured it was either a flawed gauge or the same one I have.
Well to test it out I pulled both the thermometer and the hydro gauge out right away the hydro gauge dropped from the 70 it was at to 40 and it's still dropping. The thermometer droped only from about 80 down just under 70 dose this seem right?
Here is a picture of them.

I have been misting it ever few hours or so lol. Is that bad? And yes right after I put the gauges in I misted as well. I probably should have said I am completely new to owing frogs. And I'm only going by what I read on the net. Humidity, temp, misting stuff like that. Any tips you can give would help greatly.I can give pics if needed.
Oh and is spring water ok for them?
yeh this could b what it is then. i think its gonna b pretty difficult for u to get such high readings otherwise. just keep an eye on it. check before u mist. i mist mine a few times a day. i check throughout the day and if it seems low then ill mist some more.
i use tap water. but i leave it out for a few days in an open bottle. i think it depends on the bottled water u get. someone else will have to tell u about that.
make sure ur feeding them the right size food (same size as gap between eyes) and that u calcium dust them at least once a week.
anythin else u need ill try help with u. just ask.
