Soaking Water

Everything seems to state to keep the water dish on the cool side of the tank, never under or near a heat source - but when i do my daily water change the temps always seem to be so darn frigid in the bowl, this can't be comfy to soak in can it?? i don't want to make it like a sauna i'm sure, but i doubt an ice bath is good either...or am i just being too obsessed about it now? lol. (fyi, tank temps are between 65-75F, humidity 40-60%, and i like to keep my house cold). maybe i can just move it a little closer to the warm side, but not directly under the ceramic heat lamp??

also, in regards to using a water conditioner, i found one at petco for amphibians/reptiles to use instead of using the kind i use for my fish tank....it says to use 10ml per 10 gallons, well, i probably only have about a cup or two (chin level), should just a few drops be enough?? i'm more concerned about putting too much in and having adverse effects....??

The temperature of the soaking water is not critical. I keep all my frogs at room temperature and haven't had any problems (there are no tropical frogs in my collection). My room temperature is around 68(F). From your list, I see you are keeping a couple of American toads. They have no problem living in cooler and dryer conditions, so your house is OK. Concerning the basking light - believe it or not, there are several species of frogs and toads that enjoy having a small "hot spot". If your toads like sitting under the lamp, use it, if not, remove it.

I personally use a water conditioner called Stress-Coat. I really like the way t works with my toads and aquatic frogs. I use 1ml per gallon. Use an empty water or milk bottle and a syringe for accurate measuring. The water will be available for immediate use.

I keep my toads temps about the same as yours and so far so good. As for water I use clean catch rain water and so far have been able to keep a good supply. I also use Lymnozyme (pro-biotic) 3 times a week in their (frogs & toads) soaking dishes. Mix 2 drops to 1 gal water.

I use bottled water,and AviPro mixed in and so far so good.....so far i have taken in two cane toads that were very skinny and off their food,they love to soak in their bath and i have found this works wonders they were both eating well in a short space of time!!

i bought water from a locally owned pet store it didnt have Cl so any kind of distilled water would probly be easier

You can't use distilled water or reverse osmosis water as a main water source. It will kill the frog/toad by robbing the frog/toad of vital vitamins/minerals/electrolytes/andsalts that the frog/toad needs for healthy bodily functions and to stay hydrated. You can only use these waters if you reintroduce the salts/minerals back into the water. They are fine for misting, but you can NOT use them as a main water source like a soaking dish without readding the minerals and salts that it lacks.
