    Default Self-contained Siphon Aparratus

I'm doing a 10 gallon conversion, and as I was getting my false-bottom set in place I came up with (what I think to be) a brilliant idea.

Instead of having the one PVC with a cover over it, for siphoning/cleaning out the false bottom, I am going to install a couple feet of aquarium air-pump tubing in such a way that it is extendable.

This way, whenever the vivarium needs to be siphoned, I'll just pull out the tube to however long I need it to be, and remove all the water. When I'm done it can tuck back up under the egg-crate.

I'll post pics and let you guys know how functional it is when my system is up and running.

I have a small piece of hose mounted through the eggcrate and then put a rock o top of it. I just move the rock, attach another hose to it with a fitting and siphon away.

okay, forgive my ignorance, but Don, can you post a pic?? I've used gravity siphon in cleaning fishtanks..no problem, but how do I "build the momentum" to do the same w/ such small amounts of water? Is there a siphon suited for this.. turkey baster?? ha!
