Feeding snails??

Hello all ive been reading up a bit on cane toads on the internet,and some people include snails as one of the inverts on the menu!! Surely the shells would cause impaction?? Just looking to clear this up as i am relatively new to all this however common sense tells me not to feed whole live snails....do people de,shell them and then feed? and would this be a waste of time considering all the other live feeder inverts out there,or am i wrong?? If it was true it would be great for me as i have a huge colony of GALS that my son owns,but still i think i will hold off on feeding these for every ones sake!!
But does anyone feed or has anyone ever fed snails to toads before,I would be intrested to know
