    Default Hello!

Hi, my name is Amy. My mom's birthday is next month and I want to get her a frog. I was going to get her a couple bumblebee dart frogs but when I told her they were poison dart frogs she said she didn't want them. I told her that they lose their toxicity in captivity but she doesn't want to take the chance. Soooo now I am here wondering well, what other froggy will be great for my mom. Something not too hard to take care of or maintain. Something for beginners. I will help her with the frog and maybe I can get her to join this forum too. THere are so many frogs to choose from I just don't know what she would like. =P So I need your help and give me some names so I can look them up and show her.

    Thanks!

Hi Amy and welcome to the forum!

There are several good frogs that are excellent for beginners.

-Whites tree frogs are really easy to care for. They also captivate people with their adorable smiles and overall cuteness. Plus, you can never get enough of that funny personality lol ! However, they aren't very active frogs.

-African Dwarf frogs (not clawed) are small aquatic frogs that are active and easy to maintain. You also don't really have to deal with live insects and they can be kept in the same conditions as goldfish for extended periods of time….

-Oriental Fire bellied Toads are also an excellent choice. These frogs are fairly easy to care for and are incredibly active critters. They don't get too large and they fair well at room temperature.

Some frogs that are not recommended for the beginner include: Poison frogs (although these frogs do lose their toxicity in captivity, their care can be quite complicated) and expensive frogs (ie, frogs more than $50, which is a high investment for a beginner, especially when they are still learning about frog care).

For the fun of it, you could have your mom take this froggie personality quiz to see what kind of frog she most resembles…..it could help you decide . What Kind of Frog Are You?

    Have fun!

Thanks! The whites tree frogs are very cute. She liked them.

We have had African Dwarf Frogs before, I find them to be too small but maybe my mom will like some.

I just saw Fire Bellied Toads the other day and they are pretty cool looking. I will have to look them up. =) thanks!

Welcome to FF. Good luck on the froggy adventure you are about to embark on. I just recently started and don't regret it one bit.
