    Default White's Tree Frog Help

Hi, I am new to frog forum but I already have questions, one is concerning my White's Tree frog. I have 3 of them, 2 are in perfect health, always fat and happy, the third has always been on the leaner side than my other two, but he is always happy to eat and healthy as well. Today I noticed him out sitting on one of the vines in mid morning, which is out of character for him at that time of day when he usually prefers to hide. When I fed them this evening he wasn't keen on eating when he usually ravenously scarfs down crickets. I currently have him separated in a water and honey bath (hes not too happy about that) but i noticed he is sloughing. Could all of this be because he is sloughing? Or could there be another underlying problem to cause his behavior? (sorry this was a long post by the way) I would just hate for this to be something that could spread to my other 2, and I really want to make sure they are given the best care I can, cause I really love these frogs. So any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

Are you housing them all together? If you're concerned about one of the frogs' health, you might want to separate it just to be safe.

Most adult WTFs on the market are wild caught, so the thin-ness of the frog despite its usual willingness to eat may be a sign of internal parasites.

thank you so much for the prompt response, yes i do usually house them all together, but i do have him separated now (in the honey bath at the bottom of a critter keeper). I bought him from petsmart a couple months ago, supposedly captive bred. Parasites were my first thought as well, but the sudden onset and behavioral change was what concerned me. I actually just picked up some panacur yet it is the paste not the powder so I am wary to use it unadvised. What would you recommend to be the best treatment for him? And what all should I do to their main housing to ensure it does not spread to my other frogs, currently they are asymptomatic.

Oh and on the paste panacur note, has anyone used this before? its 25 gram paste at 10% (100 mg/g) its meant to be used as a single dose for horses, i obviously wasn't going to use all of it on a single frog, but would a dot of it on their back or diluting a tiny bit in water and then soaking them in it be an effective treatment? for now and future references

Honestly, I never dealt with dosing medications myself....I always sought a vet's advice on those types of matters. Better safe than sorry.

As far as your other frogs, I would just keep an eye on them and make sure they don't display any symptoms....thats really all you ca do at this point I believe.

Well thank you for your input regardless, I always appreciate the help. I actually spoke with a vet today and she said to dose at 50mg/1 kg with panacur, but I am not sure on how to measure out the paste to be positive on an accurate dose. That is why I am asking if anybody has dealt with this treatment before

It might not hurt to see if you can get a fecal exam done on this frog....most vets will do it fairly cheap and that will determine if you even need to use any parasite meds or not.

yeah I'll probably end up doing that when I have some extra money. I just took a look at the frog and he's currently on the hunt, so i might just wait and watch his behavior a couple of days to see if he goes back to his usual routine. He might have just been having an off day and I over reacted. Little things like that can be make or break with herps, so I always make note of unusual behaviors. I am still curious on the paste panacur though, I would very much appreciate some input from someone who has tried it before. And thank you so much David for being prompt and honest with your replies, this has been a very good first experience with frog forum thanks to you.

I believe you need to ask Don Lisk. I've never heard of anyone using a paste for frogs. I don't think its a good ideas as it may not be the same as the powder and contain some other additives. Like David said "better safe than sorry".

No problem, its awesome that you are an attentive and observant keeper. Its clear the well being of your critters are a top priority, which is always a plus.

I have no idea how to measure out a paste form to get a correct measurement to a powder form.
I don't think a paste form would break down in water the same way a powdered form would.

I would see if the vet will let you stop by to pick up what you need or you can order online but getting it quickly will be expensive.
