Yes. And a couple tips when doing it... If you're applying the sealer in a garage or something where it can dry, make sure it's not freezing out. I applied a coat when it was very cold and it pooled in a low spot and ended up freezing instead of drying. This caused a large white spot. I brought the background inside to let it warm up hoping it would dry properly, but it didn't. Now I have to repaint and reseal that area. Not difficult, just inconvenient. Also, if you do a thick coat and the sealer starts to drip off the background. If you do enough coats, the places where it drips will eventually form solid drips (kinda like mini icicle bumps - not very attractive visually).

my plan was to apply it using a spray bottle and with each coat sprinkle some sand on it to get rid of the shine, but i'm going to look for an aternative cause i don't want to pay that much when i don't need a whole gallon

I added the sand too, and just a very small amount and now I wish I hadn't. Mine is for White's Tree Frogs and the sand is so rough that I'm afraid it might irritate their skin. I've been applying more coats of the sealer to try and lessen the abrasiveness (if that's a word) and I'll probably just end up putting silicone on it all together. I don't know what kind of critter you're putting in the tank, but just be wary of how sensitive their skin is.
