Hello all, I am new to the forum and need some advice. I have a pond in my back yard, 4x4x2. Living in Canada it freezes pretty much solid. This year I had a wonderful frog come and join us. He would spend his days in the pond then every night make the trek across the yard to swim in the pool for an hour or two. It is quite a sight. In the fall I noticed that unlike the others, he did not leave. I bought a pond de icer to allow the gasses to escape and when the weather was extremely cold and the pond looked solid, I warmed up the water slightly and melted enough ice to ensure that he did not freeze.
Today I went to check on the pond and there he was floating near the top, eyes closed, not moving at all. He is right side up and his limbs are extended.
Is he dead? I'm thinking the worst but I have no idea how they look while hibernating.
I apologize if this post is in the wrong section.
Thank you.
Delta.
