i was looking in one of my abf tanks yesterday and my frog is having a problem. i will try to describe what he is doing. his head seems to be leaning towards the right all the time and even though he can use his right forearm hes kind of acting paralized on the right side. i should say that a month ago the same thing happened to a pacman frog i had and i would soak the pacman in warm water a few times a day and he seems better. what could be wrong with him. oh and his right side seems to be a bit bloated. before anyone asks i use only either bottled water or i use a declorinater in my water. i cant put pics up right now either. any help would be appreciated.
anyone have any ideas what could be wrong
What are you feeding your bullfrog and how often? You might want to get a fecal sample for a vet. It is possible that your frog has a parasite. If there isn't a vet, take it to a local high school or college science lab, they should be able to determine if there is something unusual in the feces.
Nerve damage is becoming quite common due to exposure to harmful chemicals in the water or a deficiency in vitamins and minerals. Unfortunately, frogs do not always respond to treatment. One treatment that MIGHT work is the following:
If you can find Vitamin A and Vitamin B in liquid form (you can get it at at a pharmacy), will make it easy for you. On alternate days, place a drop of liquid vitamin on the back of the frog. Use the drops until the frog recovers, then use the Vitamin A once a week as part of its diet. I learned this when I was an amphibian keeper at a zoo. Make sure the crickets or food items are dusted with a vitamin supplement. Do not feed the frog red meat.
If you suspect a parasite, try this:
Crush a Parasite Clear tablet (made by Jungle and available at any pet shop) in 24 oz of distilled water. Place a drop on the frog's back every other day for a week. Wait 30 days and repeat the procedure.
Bottled water is not necessarily the best since you do not know where it really comes from. It is better to use regular tap water treated with Stress-Coat or Amquel with NovAqua. I hope that it will work for your frog.

I'm no expert, but if symptoms are localized to that leg and already affecting frog's right side, would recommend a visit to a reptile/amphibian veterinary.
You mentioned using bottled water; but which kind? If from a true spring would be OK; but if distilled, de-ionized, or R/O they will harm frogs. Also if it's filtered water would still require a conditioner due to chloramines presence.
Can you also describe your habitat parameters (temp, humidity) and frog feeding habits? Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
the temps are right around 80 on the warm side the cool side doesnt drop below 72-75 as i keep my house pretty warm. Humidity is around 65 70 percent. as far as the bottled water i do know its spring water and i do use a conditioner on it as well. as far as his eating habits he is fed every night around 10 or so crickets every few feeding he eaither gets calcium or vit dusted crickets.one thing is he is still eating like nothing is wrong. i bought a pacman frog about a month ago and he had the same problem for about a week. i gave hime plenty of warm water soaks and he seems (the pacman) fine
I use only dechlorinated water when i expand the bricks. unfortuantly at this time to to financial problems i cant get him to a vet. i dont want him to suffer so if he doesnt get better how do i euthenize him. i know that is not what people want to hear but i dont want him to suffer if i cant make hime better.
If he is still eating I would hold off on euthenizing him. In my opinion he may have injured himself some how. perhaps he is favoring the leg that is not hurt. Either way I would give him time to heal, it is very possible this could pass in a week or two, they have the ability to bounce back from injury rather quickly. I have recieved shipments of pixies that have had leg injuries front and back that if isolated and allowed time to heal typically pass.
If you do indeed decide to euthenize him, I recommend putting him in a little box, then placing him into the freezer for 1-2hours. Once again I recommend giving him time though.
And do not feel bad about be financially unable to bring him/her to the vet. Not everyone that enjoys there pets are in the position to afford a vets visit. Just to your research and try your best to help him.
Thank you everyone. i am going to give him more time to hopefully get better. he is definetly eating good just having a hard time catching his crickets because of his problem but he manages. im hoping he pulls thru.
How is frog doing? If still hanging in there and having trouble catching crickets might consider giving earthworms (make sure they are not dyed if from bait shop) or breaking off crickets back legs to make them easier to catch.

I have bad news. i woke up this morning and my abf was dead. i thought she was doing better. she was eating and seemed to be getting better. its pretty upsetting b
I am sorry to hear about your abf. Sometimes, you can't do anything but make them comfortable.
Thanks everyone. i still have my other abf at least. there is a reptile show coming up so i might try again.
Sorry for your ABF death. Since you formerly had a Pacman suffering from same problem; would recommend be extremely careful using tank or any equipment without first disinfecting it.

you really should keep any new frogs in another room than the one your useing now only because it seems to me that you are haveing a comunel problem it may affet all your frogs
