I had a Zoo Med habba mist for a while and it crapped out on me. I just purchased an Exo Terra Monsoon system and it doesn't work at all! I need to send it back now! Does anyone have any experience with automatic misters? Store bought, home made, or otherwise. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg.
when researching misters i looked at the monsoon and the mistking. From what i've read the moonsoon has a problem with leaking around one of the seals inside the top and when that happens the water gets on the motherboard and therefore renders it useless. Sure the monsoon looks nice but with its nice neat look it seems to fail in functionality / longevity. Read around on the internet you'll see alot of people have had the monsoon **** out on them. I'm going to say you probably paid around 100 bucks for the monsoon. And for that price you can get a mistking. Sure the mistking doesnt look all pretty like the monsoon but I don't think you'll find many people if not any at all who will complain about the mistking. Only thing you have to do with a mistking is make your own resorvoir bucket by drilling a hole in it to attach the bulkhead, but that takes all of about 5 minutes or less, not to mention the mistking pumps can run dry and not be hurt by it. The other thing is that the owner of Mistking is in the hobby as well and designed the system himself. Also his customer service is top notch. When I get my viv build going the only mister i will consider is the mistking for sure. If you go with a mistking would probably be worth the extra $30 to get the zipdrip valve with it as well.
Only problems I have read about the mistking is that the timers will die, and you can come home to a flooded tank with your darts hopefully climbing up out of the way. The way to get around this is to use a wall timer that you can set that only comes on for a certain amount of time during the day. Its an easy fix but thats the only thing I have found wrong with the Mistking system.
well that's a problem with any electronical device. Anything electrical has a chance to fail at some point, but as far as automatic misters go, I think you'll find mistking probably has the least amount of complaints vs any other brand
Oh yeah I agree 100%, I've used the Exo-monsoon and HATED it although they do have a nice customer service as long as its still under warranty they will send you a brand new unit, but ultimately it will work for a couple months then just die. I have used the mistking and I loved it when I had it only thing is like I said the timer will go out so just set-up your own "kill switch" by plugging it into a wall unit timer and you shouldn't have a problem at all plus I like how you can put a MASSIVE reservoir onto it so you don't have to worry about adding water as often as you have to with the monsoon.
how long did it take till your timer went out
Couple months
did you contact Marty about it? Did they replace it?
Thanks guys, I may go ahead and get the Mist King system. I really enjoy having an automatic misting system.
Mistking does these systems for Zoos and many more applications and definitely does things right.
I have a review on both misting systems here on the forums and with the finer misting nozzles, ability to handle a pile of vivs from one pump, and from my experience with the Mistking for over a year now, it has proven it is more reliable and versatile than the Monsoon.
Oh wanted to add that I have gone through two Monsoons so far and have no interest in a third.
I know what mister I will be getting if I ever need one!! Thanks guys!
Mine is running 4 tanks and will easily handle many more. Just have to watch the tank for the 1st day in case you mess up the timer settings and have an ON and no OFF :-)
I'm gonna order one as soon as I get refunded for this monsoon debacle.
Yeah they replaced it but I already came home to a tank full of water and my water dragons sitting and watching the water getting higher and higher. But yeah I had two monsoons and both crapped out so I bought a Mistking and I loved it. Never figured I would have gotten into frogs after I went to college or I would have put my mistking in my attic for save keeping =(
