im just wondering for future reference if there is a way to remove the silicone nicely and safely from a tank say if I was putting a glass divider in to make a 50-50 setup and wanted to change it somewhere down the road?
If you Google "aquarium silicone removal" will get many responses with photo's and vids. Basic procedure is to remove silicone with sharp razor blade (one sided) or box cutter blade (can held with vise-grips for safety). Keep blade at low angle to glass and wear gloves!
Next is to remove any leftover silicone film with acetone impregnated rag. Some people use white distilled vinegar too. Both have strong fumes so use in ventilated area or wear suitable mask. This step is important since new silicone will not bond to old one.
Third step is to replace any silicone bead if needed. Make sure you use 100% pure silicone and not any with mildew resistance made for doors, baths, and kitchen. Again, protect your lungs because it gives of fumes while sealing. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
