You can zip-tie the egg crate to legs by drilling small holes on legs. Also, if using silicone glue have to make sure it's pure silicon and not the kitchen, bath, door type that has mildew preventers and is toxic. Think GE reformulated many silicones recently and some that were safe before are not anymore. This is what I use on my tanks (fish or frogs) and it's not only safe; but provides a high strength bond.
