Identify this Toadlet?

Can you help me figure out if this is an American Toadlet?

Kind of hard to tell from that pic, but if I had to guess I'd say boreal toad. If not that, then a california toad. This is just by looking at pics of toads local to california with red dots.

(I'm going on the assumption you caught this toad in the wild.)

I actually ordered tadpolls on Ebay and raised them but almost all have died. The "Pet Store" told me to have way too much heat on them. That's the assumption I have come up with. There skin got very tight looking and kept dying! My instinct told me to lower the heat, so the last three look good. But they kind og go from a grey color to a very dark color.

Yeah, see in those pictures I don't see any red dots and it looks like an american toad there. If it's warm in your house (70's) it should be fine for these toads, I doubt a heat lamp would even be necessary. They are pretty hearty unless it gets too hot, which I'm sure is what you experienced. In the wild they endure cold temperatures and I've seen them out and moving in 50-70 degree temps, when it's warmer than that they will burrow to avoid heat.
