Well, that futile - I came in to check him this morning and he was dead.
At this point, I'm just going to give up on Ceratophrys, at least for the next few years. I have no idea what could possibly be wrong, I've tweaked and altered every possible aspect of their care, and they still die within 2 months.
Unless anyone has alternative suggestions, my best guess is that it's something about this apartment, some toxin or noise or pollutant that only bothers Ceratophrys. Because at this point, that's the only common ground in all the frog deaths.
I'm sorry Skeletal.Fantacies are fragile. I'm not sure what has caused this. Especially when its just out of nowhere that they become ill and die. Maybe you need to have the water tested there. Its too odd and can't possibly just be coincidence that every fantacy you receive to be a bad apple. Its just impossible. Maybe you should forget the mule and try a purebred
. Try an Ornate or Cranwelli. If it truely is some toxin in the apartment it would have affected the rest of your frogs as well. Even the water, but some species are more sensitive than others. Could be something in what you are feeding them as well. They are what they eat you know. Try a different species of Pacman. Even a full blooded Cornuta. Might have more luck. Make sure its CB ofcourse. WC don't fare well at all.
Again I am so sorry. Wish there was more we could have done.
Thanks. I've pissed away enough money on them for now, and I'll likely be moving in about 18 months, so at that point I'll try again, though probably with a CB non-hybrid. In the meantime, there's plenty of other amphibians I can try my hand at.
Sorry for your loss...I just was thinking to get a fantasy as my next frog;my ornate Margherita is now 5 months and (at the moment) looks fine,so that encouraged me for my next choice.
Last year I bought a Cranwelli that died after only 10 days or so and I still don't know why...This time, with the Ornate, same room, same temps&hum.,same enclosure, and everything is working fine,so...?
This to encourage you not to give up,maybe your new home will bring luck and health.
