I'm getting my frogs next week and using this week to set up my tank. I understand the concept around quarantining new frogs into an existing frog inhabited ecosystem, but do I need to quarantine my first frogs? I'm leaning towards no that is silly because it means setting up two tanks and why would you do that, what would be the difference and wouldn't it mean stressing my little green friends out unnecessarily when I move them to their bigger home?
On the other hand, better safe than sorry, so best to ask...
Yes......... I would.

Thanks for the welcome! I was in that thread earlier but didn't want to hijack it. Thanks for your response.![]()
i agree with Lynn. i quarantine all animals that i bring into my home. frogs, fish, shrimp, doesn't matter. they all get quarantined for a minimum of 30 days. in fact, i used to quarantine aquatic plants as well, but i no longer do that one. it's much more healthy for the animals, and it gives you an excuse to have more tanks
also, quarantining gives the tank plenty of time to "cycle". just like a fish tank, a vivarium does need to build up healthy bacteria in the substrate to help break down waste. remember, you are building a pseudo ecosystem, and at the base of any ecosystem is bacteria.
hope that helps![]()

Yes, it's a good opportunity to monitor how they're eating and pooping, both good signs. It also keeps them from contaminating all of your hard work in your new vivarium. You can catch any illnesses quickly and treat them before introducing them into their true homes. It's also easier to see them and to find them in their quarantine tank.
I would recommend a 30 day quarantine for all new frogs.
