Do Tomato frogs need any special lighting?
I grew up 6 babies in plastic tubs with just natural light coming into the room. Now I want to set up two larger terrariums and put three in each set up. I also want to have live plants in them as well. Any help and input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Bob
Hello Bob,
Welcome to the Forum!
Hope your babies are all doing well!
Tomato frogs do not require any special UVA/UVB lighting.
If you want the plants to grow well, and have the vivariums nicely light you will want to go with Exo-Terra Repti-Glo 2.0 Compact Fluorescent bulbs (CFL's), or the similar bulb of another brand (must have a rating of 2.0, the 5.0 bulbs are too high for most amphibians).
Bacically for plants, you need a CFL bulb that provides a full colour sprectrum (6500K) light. You can purchase regular GE CFL 6500K "daylight" bulbs. They are the same as the Exo Terra bulbs, just a lot cheaper!I use them, and my plants grow great, this is one of my favourites:
Here are the regular CFL bulbs to use: Walmart.com: GE Energy Smart Spiral CFL Daylight Bulb, 20W, 2pk: Decor
Hope that helps!

Thanks. I will try the CFL's for the plants.
