Hi, I'm new to terrariums / vivariums. My son is wanting us to set one up for dart frogs. I've done a little research and can't seem to decide what kind of enclosure to get. I've read that the frogs "food" can get in between the doors on the exo terra... Is this true? Does anyone have issues with this? Why not just use a normal aquarium with a screen top? What are the disadvantages of that? And I've seen these enclosures Vivariums & Terrariums - Tropical Ecos but I'm not sure they will provide enough ventalation. Has anyone ever used these? What is your opinion of these?
Thank you,
Chris
If your getting dart frogs they don't need all that much ventilation, the problem with a screen top is that it won't provide enough humidity for dart frogs. Depending on the species you need 90% humidity so that is the problem with a screen top. Lots of people take aquariums and turn them up and make them into a vertical aquarium with a glass cover. You've come to the right place there are threads EVERYWHERE on the tanks to use and then how to set-up/build them.
Good luck
Ok but don't the exo Terra's have a screen top as well?
Yeah most people cover those with plastic wrap which can also be used on a fish tank, but with an exo-terra its easier to just get a small piece of glass cut to put over that. With a fish tank you have to put a piece that is glass and a piece that is screen and make a door. Whereas with a exo-terra the front will open allowing you a door.
