Hello!
I've been looking in the terrarium and Vivarium sections recently and I have a question...
Can I use a aquarium tank ( empty) for frog?
As I could read, I think it would be better for aquatique frog like FBT, because they need a lot of water.
But I also saw that tree frog seem to be really affected by the lack of ventilation so it's recommanded to have a real terrarium... ?
So, can we use a aquarium tank for frog?
Does it depend of the specie?
I'm asking this question because I used to have a lot of aquariums with fish and I still have lot of empty tank of different size.
Thank you!![]()
Hey Alexandra,
I fish tank works just fine. I have one for my Grey Tree Frogs and one for my Fowler's Toads and all are doing great. If you don't need high humidity a screen top gives plenty of ventilation for the critters. I have pic of both habitats in my albums if you want to check them out. Just make sure you clean and rinse them thoroughly. Also it's good practice to have the tank set up and ready to go before you move the critters into it. I had mine going and growing for a month before the critters moved in.
Oki thanks!
I don't know what means Critters. I suppose you are talking about frogs?
And for some dart frogs? ( bumble bee ) is a tank alright?
A fish tank would work for dart frogs, you just need to cover most of the screen with plastic wrap since they need a lot of humidity. I took a fish tank and stood it up vertical and made a vertical tank for my tree frogs and they love it
Ok thanks! It's fun to know all the possibilities!![]()
If needed I can buy a terrarium, but if I can save money with my fish tank, it would be nice!
Thank you.
Your Aquarium will work great!
I house all my frogs in Aquariums, it's not really about what you have but what you make out of it.
For darts, you can make a climbing background on three sides of the tank (using spray foam insulation sprayed onto the glass, then covered in silicone and coated with dry coco-fibre, makes it look like a rock wall), a water feature, a small misting system, plant some climbing/crawling plants, some bromeliad plants, and toy'll be ready for darts.
Also, if you plan on getting darts, the lid will have to allow for mimimal ventilation, as darts like high humidity.
I use aquariums also. As Royce mentioned above, you just have to adapt the aquarium to the specific frog you chose.
