I see in past posts that most of the items you utilize for accent items such as moss and toad stools, can you elaborate on how you prepare these for placement into a tank? i would love to collect my own mushroom to create ledges but have not do so yet.

Also, you know this is coming, but how much Popeye memobrelia do you have? shirts, standups, collectibles

Well, since I have wild Wood frogs (and because I try to make their habitats as close to the “real thing” as possible to reduce stress) I don’t do much to moss and stools. I do let the moss sit out in an open area to allow some of the bugs to crawl off. Then I completely submerge them for a few days or longer to get rid of mites and other little buggies that still remain. I have steam treated my moss once; that worked ok. As far as toadstools, I’ve only done the submerging process. I know Royce (Poly) is making a toadstool ledge for his toad viv….I believe he is boiling his toadstools, which consist of a type of birch ledge . For wood, I usually give it the bleach treatment or oven bake: Treating Wild-Caught Wood. I hope that answers your hehe.

Hahaha, I knew someone would say something !! I don't have a ton (maybe like one or two), but my mom does lol. He was my mom's uncle, so she has a lot of collectibles stored to her keepsakes boxes.

What is your favorite pizza topping?
I have a frog. She's fat and green. Her name is Gertrude, because she is fat and green.

Don, I use Inonotus obliquus mushrooms, the only hosts they grow on are dead birch trees. I boil them for 10 minutes, then bake them for around an hour. I am curious to hear what mushrooms Autumn uses because if they are terrestrail mushrooms (not tree fungi) I would love to know how they worked out.

The mushrooms I used were little brown mushrooms (they were growing in the moss I collected). Not sure what specific species of mushroom they were, but they were terrestrial.
Haha, they only lasted a month in the terrarium, but I got a couple to grow! One grew to about 3.5 inches before it started to decay as it reached the end of its short life . I didn’t do anything special; I dimmed the light a bit and misted the terrarium 2 times a day .

When mushrooms decay, they spread spores, which can be dangerous to amphibians. ID'ing a mushroom first to find out if it is poisonous is a must. Was it possible that Cutie was more exposed to the mushrooms than the other frogs, it is possible that the spores of the mushroom could have caused his death... Just a theory.

Also, on a less serious note... toadstools are not the mushrooms you want becaue the term “toadstool” (from the German "Todesstuhl" — death's stool) is the name commonly given to poisonous mushrooms! lol!

Oh no no no lol! I didn't have the mushroom(s) and the frogs in the same enclousure.....I built the terrarium first, then introduced the frogs a month later (the frogs were being quarentined as I just captured them). I removed the mushroom and the moss it was growing on, once I saw it start to decay. And the frog that ended up in the terrarium that had the mushroom, was Digger, who is still alive lol. I should have specified this earlier hehe .

Thanks for the heads up though !
