I don't know if it's exactly the same as planting in water - the hydroton might provide some structure and storage for nutrients - which would kind of make it a substrate and therefore not true hydroponics??? Not sure, but apparently growers have managed to keep a wide variety of plants hydroponically, i.e. violets, begonias, philodendrons... I'm just wondering if anyone has actually done it successfully in a vivarium.
