Hi all, thanks for checking out my post. I have just picked up a couple of ADFs from my local Green Earth store on the sixth(2 days ago). In the last day, one of them is exhibiting a really odd behaviour, I'm not sure if it's natural or not. Any ideas on how to proceed would be appreciated.
Anyways, my frog will go right against the wall, go into a "standing" position, then proceed to swim half way - all the way to the surface, then come crashing down in a heap. Five seconds later, it is at it again! I have no idea if this is a problem and am kinda worried, these are my first pets! Please give me some insight!
Thanks a lot
Warren

Behaviour starts at around 0:28
**UPDATE!!! as I am typing this, the bouncy one made a lunge-fake at the other one, who backflipped backwards and they are now in a staredown. The scared one just inched forward a bit! :O I have noticed today that they have been nipping at each other as well. The scared one continues to inch towards and it just happened again! the agressor just rotated after flinging its arms around, and now it's standing and fluttering against the wall as it did before!
UPDATE 2 as I wait for my youtube video to upload, the flutterer came to the bottom and lay in its heap, but it just stopped moving altogether. I started panicking as when the other nudged it, it made no response! what seemed like a long 10 seconds later, the frog jolted to life again, and is now doing the same jumping, and not trying to kill the other.
Ok....calm down! lol
Your frogs are acting fine, but the tank you have is not big enough from what I can see in the video. Did you research these frogs before you bought them or are they an impulse buy?
ADF are nearly blind - they see shadows mostly and they interact with their environment by touch and feeling motion through the water.
They are not aggressive - they are stupid. If the feel something moving near them, they think it is food and they try to taste it. Again, not aggression but a combination of small brains and awful eyesight.
These two frogs need a 5 gallon minimum tank, filtered and heated. They also breathe oxygen and you will see them going up for a quick breath of air then coming crashing down like the world's ending - quite normal.
This is a very skittish species and they need lots of hiding areas in their tank to feel braver - if they know there are plenty of places to hide incase "danger" comes, they will be more comfortable. They will spend lots of time relaxing, whether laying down or in their "Zen" positions which looks like standing, if you were looking for something to be constantly moving/playing about then this is not the pet for you.
What is important on your part - is to calm down, get them a properly set up tank, and do some research into their care. I have a page about ADF in my link if you want to start there.

Thanks a lot for the post, I thought it could be hunger? I got a bunch of round pellets and say to put in 4, twice a week. Do you think that's enough?
Did you buy one of those little ecosystems???
Young frogs should be fed daily.... Adults every other day.
Disregard everything that little packet told you.

Yes, I did. Thanks for the tips, I will begin to feed them every day. How long until I can move to every other day feedings?
Thanks a lot!
