I had Pancake, a baby pac man that i got from a trade show.
He was small (quarter sized?) and didn't... well, do anything =p He never moved, burrowed, went in his water or any of the things i see all you guys and girls talking about! He passed away =( (My temps and humidity were bang on too!)
The empty aquarium made me sad, and I decided to try again. I found a bigger frog this time (i'm guessing 3 inches snout to vent), hoping he'd be established eating and whatnot. So last night i brought him home and he is SO AMAZING! He moves around! He jumped into his water dish and chilled out there, and he turns to look at me when i walk into the room! Last night my husband said he almost woke me up at 2am because he went into the kitchen (where the aquarium is) and he looked and there was no frog! He was worried that he had gotten out and the cat would eat him! But he moved some of the coconut stuff around with his finger, and the frog popped out. =)
This morning, we heard him croaking! so amazing! he gave 3 croaks, then popped out of the substrate! i am so in love!
my phone is having an issue emailing myself the pics, so i'll post pics later
it worked now... here he is!
and maybe someone could tell me the name of this kind of frog? =)
Congrats on your new frog and sorry about the first one. Not an expert, but looks like a C. cranwelli to me. If you have not read it yet, this article has very good info on Pacman care: Frog Forum - Pacman and Horned Frogs - Ceratophrys - Care and Breeding . Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
oh i def read the care sheet on this site when i first got Pancake =)
i really believe i did everything as right as i could with Pancake, and maybe something was wrong with him when i got him
Best of luck with your new friend! He is a looker! (Brown C. cranwelli by the way)
It's so awesome to hear them call! Loki just started calling last week; Every time I hear him I have an "Awwwwww" moment.
So, noname pacman frog burrowed on friday night, and he hasn't come out! should i be worried? He hasn't eaten for me yet (I got him on Thursday night) and i'm hoping he's just stressed out from his move to his foreverhome from PetSmart. The temp and humidity look good...
They take time to acclimate to a new environment. Make sure the humidity stays at 80% and keep your temps around 82 during the day and from 75 to79 at night. Preferrably at 77 or 78 at night. I would unbury just his head so he can see. Place some dusted crickets in the enclosure with their hind legs broke off so they are easier to catch. Humidity should be high 70s to 80% all the time if possible.
Keep us posted.
Thanks Grif! Before I posted my little concern, I had uncovered him and tossed in a cricket (without breaking the back legs!) and when i looked in a little bit later, the cricket was gone! So i threw another one in and *gone*
His temps are 81-83 during the day and 76-79 at night so i'm pretty close to what you suggest! Thank you !!
I'm off to PetSmart today to buy some more crickets and worms
