    Default African Bullfrog Setup Questions

Hello everyone I have attached pictures of my ABF and his setup with a couple questions. He is currently 5 months old and is in between 6 and 7 inches from snout to vent. I'm thinking this is a very fast growth rate and happy about that. I have him in a 40 gallon breeder that is separated by plexiglass to make it a 60/40 setup with half water and land. He enjoys this alot and I keep the water clean with a submersible filter (duetto). It seems to work pretty well and I clean out the bid debri with a small fish net. I use over the tank heating with two 75 watt incandescent bulbs on each side of the tank keeping the tank at a good temperature b/c my house stays around 72 degrees during the winter time. I think this heat is adequate at the time b/c he stays very active and eats constantly, but I am thinking I might need a heater for the water to keep it a little warmer during the winter time. Any thoughts? Ideas about how I should do this? I was thinking of buying a submersible water heater to put in the water section, but don't know if that would work or not. Hope you enjoy and I would love some advice. I can post more pics if needed.

You can get a 10 gallon submersible water heater to take care of heating your water. Submersibles work great in all my pixie tanks.

    I like yor set up.
Just, I should add plants and/or barks in the substrate part.

A heater for the water is a good idea. 25W should be sufficient and then you can spend less watts !

You should have to hide it so that the frog doesn't get in touch with it.

I had a budgett frog formerly and I heated it's water set up tank with a 25W heater which was perfect.

First estimate the actual water volume in your water section by using this formula or any other on the net: Aquarium Volume Calculator (W.C.S. Ltd.) . Once you get approximate gallons can get a heater rated for that volume. Usually they are rated to raise temp. 10 degrees F above ambient. I prefer Eheim's Jagger heaters because of their quality, shatterproof glass, accuracy, and efficiency; but as long as fully submersible you should be OK. Also, locate so frog does not come into contact with it. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

I bought a submersible heater for the tank and it stays right around 80 degrees for water temp night and day...seems pretty ideal to me. I hid it under a couple rocks so it is somewhat hidden...I think it did the trick. Thanks for the help.
