Exclamation Sick whites tree frog! plz help

My whites who up until this morning has been normal for the last 6 years I've owned her (I assume she was young when I got her, but who knows) isn't right. She was in her water this am, not normal for her (usually in her cave by 9) , and when I went to pick her up she just sort of flopped. Didn't go into her froggy form. Her skin was dry. I gave her new water, and tried to splash some on her. I put her in her spot and left her alone for most of the day- she did have 1 live cricket in with her. Now she's still not eating, is in her corner, doesn't look up when I open her cage and now she's SHAKING. Which is really scary, and I feel so bad for her. I heard lamisil? Could be fungal?

Q's- is she too far gone to treat? Can frogs be humanely euthanized by a vet? If I can treat her, what with? Any other thoughts???

So sorry that your frog is ill. I don't have an answer for treating your frog, a pic might help someone see something.

Yes, a vet might have an answer to what is wrong with him/her and can euthanize if needed.
If you want to euthanize him/her you can apply neosporin with benzocaine painkiller on the back. The benzocaine is what kills them is a very humane way to put them down.

I hope things change for the better and again, so sorry :-(

If your frog is weak and you are not positive that its chytrid you will only make him weaker. The chytrid treatment is stressful and stress can wear down your frog and make him worse. Instead try to soak him in luke warm de-chlorinated water with 3 drops of honey disolved in the water. Make sure its no deeper than up to your frogs chin. Only do this once. Soak the frog for 5 to 10 minutes. This will also be stressful but doesn't involve chemicals. Also you should take him to a vet. You need to be sure what is wrong so that he can be given proper treatment. Try the warm honey bath and keep us posted.

Below is some different thoughts that may spark something that may have occurred:

Have you been providing gut loaded crickets and calcium supplement over the years?

Any chance she at something foreign such an insect other than crickets?

Any chance of handling after using some type of cleaners or disinfectant on your's or another's hands?

I feel bad I can not provide a positive answer for you and hope she/he gets better.

    Also, a pic might help

She's been eating the same brand crickets from pet smart for the last 6 years. and no I don't supplement them- but yesterday I did by some vit to sprinkle on them but she isn't eating.

No other insects in her cage besides the crickets I put there.

And no one has handled her in weeks. The only time I ever touch her is to move her so I can give her her water- and I always rinse my hands.

Question- do frogs this sick EVER get better?

She is actually holding her head up now, but still shaking and looking pretty crappy. I'll go take a pic and post it.

Okay I think I attached her picture. The flash makes her look far greener than she is, and you can't really appreciate how shaky she is from a still pic. Also that is not her normal habitat- I took her out and put her in a glad container with a wet papertowel for a base.

If she is having muscle tremors and is weak that may very well be her calcium intake. That happened to my Whites about 10 years ago. I took him into a Vet, she gave me drops and he was pretty much back to normal after that. Its imperative you dust those crickets! I would take her to a vet asap, usually you can catch these things early enough. Good luck hun!

Her toes curled under slightly in that picture just doesn't look good to me. This looks like an emergency.
Until you can get her to a vet, you must follow the advice given by the above folks.
I am certainly not one that should be giving advice as I just lost one of my white's after 2 1/2 weeks of him being home, but I have learned a lot recently.
Soak her right away in de-chlorinated and conditioned warm water, like Grif said, with 3 drops of honey- this may give her the energy she needs to eat something.
Try and feed her something with a vit powder or calcium powder with D-3.
It is soooo imperative she get the calcium. This could be a severe case of bad nutrition, and now it is a crisis.
She may still be saved if you follow the advice from all the more experienced forumers.
Take care of her right away until you can get her to a vet.
Please don't give up on her!

I wouldn't treat her with lamisil, that is something that requires the firm knowledge of chytid. That treatment, from what I hear (and Grif has stated), is very stressful.

Have you done the honey bath yet? did she perck up at all?
Someone else should chime in about force feeding, I think that may be what i would do. Use a credit card or shopping card to gently open her mouth, then with the other hand slide in the food item.. You just dust the food item with the powder, if you only have vit powder, use that (does it have calcium in it?).
Keep her warm and moist... Poor baby

I just got inside, I will go try the warm honey bath asap! Also- as for force feeding I know how to use a credit card to open her mouth but dumb question- do I use a live dusted cricket? or a dead one? ie- how do I get the squirming cricket into her mouth. Also, is there a risk of choking her??

Most treatments are dosed by weight. You need to know the weight of your frog. Also go to the pet store and immediately purchase Flukers Repta-Aid. Its emergency aid for reptiles and amphibians. It has a dosage chart inclueded so you can mix the right amount for your frog based on weight. You will have to force feed your frog. To do this you need to use a credit card/shopper card to gentley pry open your frogs mouth and place the food in his/her mouth. It doesn't have to be placed all the way in. Just enough for him/her to bite down on it the frog will do the rest. This is best done with 2 people. One to hold the frog and the other to perform the force feed. Dust any food you force feed as well.

The Repta-Aid comes with a seringe that you can squirt the Aid mixture into your frogs mouth. It is very good to keep on hand.

Live or prekilled is fine. Worms are also a good choice. You can cut pieces of night crawler up an feed those as well. They are easier to digest but right now getting some food and vitamins in him/her is very important.

Lindsey- I think so, but I've read so much I don't know.

I've got her soaking in a glad container- the small kind with just enough water to come just below her chin. It's luke warm- like what you would bathe a new born in- wasn't sure how warm I could make it. And it's probably 1/3 cup of water with 3 drops of honey mixed in. I am waiting for the vet to call me back, but really he knows nothing about frogs and the closest herp vet is an hour away and doesn't have weekend hours.

If your vet doesn't treat herps then he may not be able to help unless he can find info from actual herp vets on how to treat your frog. An hour drive is nothing for you if you need to save your frogs life. A specialist on amphibians is your best bet. I wish there was more I could do to help.

Maybe the vet can at the very least weigh her and prescribe the calcium drops. The repti Aid that grif mentioned should be used if you can find it and get to the petstore. I too wish I could help more...
