I think he was over fed by myself. He would just eat and eat and eat. He went from the size of a dime to the size of a half dollar in a month. The rack he was in has 16 totes. Of which 15/16 have other small pacman frogs, ornates, ect in them. Each feeding I take the each frog out and feed in seperate deli cups to prevent eco earth consumption. This frog was my favorite by far, very high contract green fantasy with very high horns above his eyes. Four days ago he ate what seemed like 2-3 big earth worms chopped up he kept wanting more and more. I basically gave him everything the other frogs did not eat, he ate way too much. The next day (three days ago, I found a large thing of mush, almost like throw up or poop, it just didnt look right in his cage I removed it and thought nothing of it. The next day (two days ago) I found him lifeless, I shifted him and such he moved a little but was weak. I put him in a warm dish of water thinking he was dehydrated, let him sit in it for the entire day he seemed fine... honestly. I took him out at the end of the night. Yesterday I fed everyone, he was the only frog that wouldnt eat, not good. Today I found him dead. Please excuse this picture it does him no justice, I'm providing it so people can see and discuss if he may have had a disease? which I doubt because I have had him for over a month and a half, and all of his buddies are doing just fine. Just really frustrated with the situation, I love my frogs and this is the first one I have ever lost. Such a shame.
He looked skinny and pale upon death, but I can assure you 5 days ago he was a fatty :*(. Picture does him no justice at all.
Sorry for your loss. Do you supplement any calcium or other nutrients with feedings?
Im so sorry for your loss Mikey![]()
Don's question is all too common here on the forum and yet a very valid one. Pyxies and Pacs if you don't supplement their food and especially at such a young age it could have been a big possibility that he could have become sick from lack of nutrients. Sometimes even a diverse diet does not give them all they need. I am so sorry for your loss. I'm sure he was very beutiful. I wish that I had the answer for you. There are several diseases that take time to run the frogs immune system down before it claims their life. Chytrid fungus is one such infection. I also believe Red Leg takes time, but once it appears you have very limited time to treat it. Parasites also take time to weaken the frog before they are fatal. I really do wish I had an answer. I'm sorry.
You could take him to a vet and have them do an autopsy and run tests to see what caused his untimely passing. Once again I am truely sorry.![]()
Sorry for your frog's death. Imagine you threw away the last "mush" it passed so can't take to vet for analysis. Grift idea to take frog to vet for autopsy is good since you have a large collection of other 15 frogs in same enclosure and the cost of autopsy is probably lower than having to replace them. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Thanks ;/
eh an autopsy may be in order if I see any signs from my other frogs. The rack that he was in holds roughly 200-250 dollars worth of frogs, not sure how much an autopsy would be.
Thanks, losing a frog that you put a ton of time into sucks
I do not supplement. I have been growing out pixies and pacman for a few years now and have never had any issues with a mixed diet. The frog that died was only in my possession for a months time, I doubt nutrition would hit him so rapidly, remember he ate like 12-15 pieces of earth worm 5 days ago. His appetite and activity was hardy.
I don't believe it was a lack of nutrition if you were feeding multiple items..then supplementation. Would not be all that necessary. I supplement my pacs and pixies with a multivitamin once a week and calcium with/without d3 once a week and they do fine. Seems like it could have been parasites or possibly a fungus?
Parasites or a fungus may be possible. Hoping not, but is definantly an option.
Just got a chance to actually check the picture out. Dont know if its possible to overfeed these guys cause when mine wanna stop they stop, but that frog looks like it regurgitated its insides. Maybe it was overfed but im just specualting...in any case sorry for your loss. Lost an albino once, I know how it feels
Ya I agree I think he regurgitated his insides. Its the only thing that makes sense to me.
I'm sorry for your loss![]()
